OK.... Those of you that have either married, engaged, OR have dated seriously Latins..... I HAVE A QUESTION.

Where to live??? (the talk for after/the possibility of marriage) Settle???  A North American with a Latin American...  

Being American, I must say I am amazed at the beauty of the landscape, and people in SA!!!  Keeping the idea of "the grass is greener on the other side" that applies to many people in mind; do you find that most latins want to marry and move to the US?  OR they don't mind living in SA, with trips to the US?  When you find your dream mate... would you move to LA or prefer to stay in the US and frequently visit LA???

I love it here and plan on staying in Brasil, however the Brasilian's faces light up (depending on the area) at a blond american.... and always mention their "dream" of going to the US...

Obviously, if it is love... their first choice is where ever the mate is.... but have you found that most want to go live in the US, or only frequently visit the US....(missing their home country too much)?

Although all of the ladies I have dated preferred to live in the states, they also don't seem to mind when I ask them about me moving to Colombia. I'm sure it depends on age, as mentioned previously.

The younger group will want to be in the US.
Older, finacially happy will want to stay where they're at.
Rich - they'll have that visa so they'll own a place in the US, yet maintain residence in their home country (you'll find that group as you walk past the 1st class section on the airplane).
Myself, yes I work in the US and have a condo in Cali - but actually the condo was my idea, I love it down there.
I have not made it further south than Colombia, but I believe the above to be true for all of LA.

Good post Cherinha.  

As you already know, I have dreams of moving and living one day in a LA country, perhaps Argentina or Brazil.  I fell in love with Argentina, especially a beautiful city called Mendoza.  From what you and others have said about Brasil though makes me believe that it too is a beautiful country with lovely people.  Can't wait to discover this firsthand.  

It was interesting during my time spent in Argentina that many of the ladies I met, did not particularly want to move to the US.  One was adamant, and said she would not leave her country.  Some Colombianas I know would like to live in the US, others do not.

Even before I arrived at my ex-pat dreams, I would tell some Colombianas that I wanted to move to LA.  One reason was that I was afraid of the "green card shark" and thought this would be a way to sift through those sorts of gals.  Now, I do not fault a Latina for wanting to come to the States even though some of her desire is based on a perception, which more than likely is not accurate of what life is like here.  

I know most Latinas would be terribly homesick if living here and would like to visit their homeland as often as possible.  Some board members have residences in two countries.

Your "eyes light up" comment surprises me because from other Brazilian posters, they have said many Brazilians prefer living in their country.

By the way, which is the more common way of spelling Brasil/Brazil?  Either/or okay?

You must be having a hay day being tall, good looking, and blonde, every Latinos dream! Now if they could only dance...sigh.

Brazil... Americans spell it this way because the "z" has a z sound in english.

Brasil... The Brasilian's spell it this way because the "s" has the z sound in Portuguese.  It does impress the local men & WOMAN down here when you learn and discover, and adapt yourself to THEIR culture, AND THEIR language.... etc.  There are many "gringos" that come here only interested in work/woman/landscape, and are not interested in learning the language or culture or little things about the country.  'Those individuals'are not welcomed into the hearts of the people, though the people are still very warm and loving.

The sites in English on the internet spell it with the "z", while you will find the Portuguese sites and main Brasil sites normally spell with a "s".  I guess I didn't notice I was doing that... just naturally started doing this down here.

Paul.... if your interest is in Argentina and Brasil... You may consider having a home in each place....

Now you've done it...revealing my true name/identity publicly.  Alright, two can play that game...Cheryl.  So much for anonymity. ;-)

I would love to have two homes, one being stateside but unfortunately, I am not independently wealthy.  I could rent out my home but being an out of country landlord has some disadvantages.  Being able to retire for a fraction of what it costs to live here though is very appealing.

I won't burn any bridges though, won't renounce the government, so can always return if I ever get tired of them beautiful sweet Latinas.  (Is that even possible?)

BTW, I'm glad you decided to stick around on the board.
