My wife went to get her hair trimmed a few months ago.  The stylist was a Mexican woman, about 25 years old.  She saw me and they talked about men, among other things.

The Mexican woman told my wife she won't date gringos because they're "tacaņo".  If you don't know what that means, then you may be too tacaņo to buy a Spanish/English dictionary.

Life's so unfair when you're a gringo.  I think I'll sit around and cry in my cereal all morning.

Steve

PS. I'm as tacaņo as they get.

I can't find tacaņo in my dictionary.  Is it a slang term?

It's in my dictionary. It means stingy or miser. My novia says that gringos are stereotyped as being tacaņo. After reading Travellerīs comments about agency users, itīs no wonder.

Man you are tacaņo, I notice how you describe items like "my wife" and "my cereal"!
I just wish "my" wife had a Mexican hairdresser, since she discovered Toni & Guy in Big D she gets all kinds of crazy ideas from uppity chileņos and such (I say nuke NorthPark and all tiendas in it).

Please explain.  I don't understand how describing my wife as "my wife" has a conotation of being tacaņo (although I am).  She's not "your wife", she's "my wife".  How else do I say it?  What would a non-tacaņo Steve say?

"The woman I married" went to get her hair trimmed a few months ago.

"The person to whom I am a husband" went to get their hair trimmed a few months ago.

"The Caleņa who is costing me a fortune" went to get her hair trimmed a few months ago.

You gotta put your foot down.  No Toni & Guy.  I take her to SuperCuts.

Steve

I'll second that.  Too late for SuperCuts in my camp, but at least now she understands that if she just skips Toni & Guy several times, that'll save enough for a plane ticket back to Cali with plenty of change left over for the cut/tint down there.

When you cry, the world cries with you.  Yes, you have proved that we too are victims of rampant generalizations and bias.

Su tacano amigo,
