... in response to Battered Calenas, posted by Cali James on Aug 1, 2003I read Aaron's posts and my perceptions are different. I came back from Colombia 3 weeks ago and I used agencies exclusively, two in Bogota, two in Cartagena. when I say exclusively, I did meet one woman (listed with a Cartagena agency)who I had written to a year ago, and a Bogota agency called her and made a date for me. Of course, I flew to Cartagena to meet her, but finding her was the best part of the trip.
On the whole, I thought that agencies were a very pleasant and incredibly cost effective way to meet women. I looked at the agencies in this way, I met something like 48 women in about 30 days, and I could have met more, if had I wanted to. I spent less then a thousand in agency and introduction fees and on 2/3 of the women, I spent less then the equivalent of $5 USD because it never went past a couple of cups of coffee and some pastry or a couple of drinks. Tell me, is it possible to meet that many women in a month in the US and spend so little to determine if there might be a possibility of a relationship?
Maybe it is quite different in Cali, or different with the age group I dated (34 to 42). But, no one ever solicited me for prostitution, no one asked me for anything more then cab fare. In an entire month, I was stood up for a initial sita only once, two women made themselves unavailable after one or two dates and I wasn't too surprised any of the times. I had one slightly heated break up scene in which the lady supplied the heat. There were quite a few times that I would go out with someone and we would have a polite conversation, and there was no real connection, but that happens in any dating environment.
Probably the worst experience I had was going out on a second date with one woman who lost her temper at a very young waiter, maybe 17, who was accidentally clumsy. She just took off on him, I mean really "ripped him a new one." For what seemed an eternity, the kid stood there and took it and I was surprised by the lady, but I kept my mouth shut. I felt badly for the kid, found him in the kichen when she went to the ladies room, told him I was sorry for what had happened and threw him a few bucks. I didn't contact or go out with the woman again.
All I expect from an agency is to provide a service for a fee and arrange for me to meet a woman. After that, it is communication, chemistry, timing, a man's character, her character, a man's judgement and his motivations, as well as whatever the woman has going on in her life and her motivations that will determine if anything happens.
I'm planning to be in Colombia (hopefuly both Cartagena ands Bogota) again in October for 7-8 days and I would use agancies again in a heartbeat.
