Just booked my flight to Cali, I needed specific dates.  Orbitz, expedia, travelvelocity, etc.. all were not picking up some of AA's proprietary fares and were outrageous - all well over $1,000 from DFW.
Went directly to AA's site, booked a fare for $650 - only catch was my return flight now has 2 connections, CLO-MIA-IAH-DFW.  The MIA only connection on the return would have cost $1,200 - well worth $550 for one more stop IMHO.  Just goes to show you've really got to do some legwork to get a good fare these days.

CaliVet - Do you know anyone that would rent a nice cabin/house up at Lago Calima for a few days in early July?  I plan to spend a couple days kiteboarding up there this visit.  I found a primitive 4 bedroom for $80.000/weekend but it sounds a little too primitive for the wife.

I posted before,try Barbara Garcia,All Around  Travel,
800-433-2423.She is connected directly to the AA computer system. She will do all your searches, get you the best fare, then make it better by refunding part of her commision to you.She knows when the cheaper fares will be released to purchase.
I have searched on line air fares, but  would never buy without knowing exactly what the itinerary is,and I could never get that for sure.

Good information. I ran into the same thing looking for my ride to Guayaquil.

I might add from an airline gate agent friend, that the airlines do have a method to their madness when it comes to pricing, it just takes a bit of sleuthing to get the best deal. For example, earlier this year, Louisville-Cincinnati-Hawaii $1450 for seven day notice. However, Colombus(a 3 hour drive)-Cincinnati-Hawaii $830. It seems to make no sense that Columbus would be cheaper, but it is. So, if you can stand to drive-have the time, and the parking fees don't kill you, trying another city could get you there cheaper.
