BTW, I've mentioned before amigos.com, Yahoo personals, and MSN/Hotmail. I think that for the money these would be more effective for you. You have to access MSN/Hotmail via a Brasil-based Hotmail account to get the right personals site: a U.S.-based account will get you match.com or some such thing which is not as good. Again, I can help you with that if you want.
I ran some ads here in Florianópolis and in Porto Alegre for a friend in the States, and the results were pretty crappy. It probably didn't help that he was specifically looking for a woman who doesn't have and doesn't want kids, but the rest of his profile was pretty good: fairly young, active/athletic, decent job, etc. I've been using the above three services the past couple of weeks with much better results than he ever got, for a lot less money. I wrote my ad in Portuguese, but maybe because I listed Spanish as another of my languages I've been generating interest from all over Latin America, and even Spain. With the online sites you can put a nice picture of yourself and communicate more or less instantly with interested parties. If you put up a photo on a site (*highly recommended*; c'mon, don't hide-- would you look at, let alone respond to an ad without a photo?), ladies seem to have more courage about contacting you and sending you a photo than if you're just some anonymous guy in the paper. Just--please!--go to a studio and get a nice photo done, not some blurry snapshot of you with your ex-girlfriend's hand visible around your shoulder (you wouldn't believe some of the photos people use). Place the ad in English, and you'll target those who speak English, and you can work it so that it looks like you're from whatever city you are planning to visit and thus attract women from there.
