Yes, but they changed that rule, back in January, I think. I even saw a news article about it, before it became a personal problem.

Well I'm sorry for your stepson, but I'm glad that law was changed for a more equitable one (at least I hope it is.)

Personal, it's affecting us, that's true, but in the 'big picture', you are correct....but they do still have the cash buy out option, so rich kids still don't go (sounds a lot like 1969 in the US, doesn't it, for those of us old enough to have been affected by it)

If I recall correctly there is a buyout option that legally completes the obligation, based upon income but typically less than $500.  If they don't have that option anymore you still have the bribe as a backup, probably about a grand.  It's still a lottery system I believe, so he may just get "lucky".

Yeah,he and I talked about that yesterday, he says they still have it, his is going to cost about 2 million...if it comes down to it, I'll pay it for him....his father (what a low life) has already refused with his usual line of 'if you need money, your mother knows what she has to do to get all the money she needs from me' (if you catch his drift....naturaly she refuses)
