Well hello all, apparently the goat sacrifice by Michael B worked. The house sold and I am free at last and off the fence.

I hold in my hand...tickets to Guayaquil, so maybe Patrick will get his trip report after all. I will be there from for 2 weeks in the middle of July.

I barbequed him. He tasted good. (well, not really, but it sounds nice). Well, safe trip and good luck. Keep us posted.

Good luck in Guayaquil. It seems to make many travelers' short list of crappiest cities to visit (right up/down there with Colón, Panama), but there should be no shortage of pretty women interested in you. Be ready to go through lots of mosquito repellent. Hey, it's better than being kidnapped...

The accent there will be a challenge. I have a friend from Guayaquil, and half the time she has to repeat herself when talking to me although my Spanish is good. They seem to talk fast and "eat" the last syllable of many words. Not so in other cities; supposedly closer to the mountains the people have to interact with aboriginal people who speak native dialects, thus they talk slower and more clearly.

Glad to hear someone's taking the road less travelled. What are you doing to generate leads?

Thanks! I have heard the same thing about the accent. Interesting. Regarding the city itself, well, I've never been to South America, but some of the other places in the Middle East and Carribean I've been must also be contenders for the crappy city list too. Howver, you might want to buy stock in DEET makers, I will be buying some!

Regarding leads, I found a little agency. It is not sophisticated at all, but operates along the lines of networking friends and family. For me, that seems best.

Also, Ecuador has wonderful trout fishing! Gotta do some of that!

I've heard the Esmeraldas area, a beach area up north, has some of the prettiest women on the planet.

As far as contacts, MSN/Hotmail personals shows about 120 women listed for Guayas state/departamento, where Guayaquil is located. If you look up "singles" or whatever it's called, from a U.S.-based Hotmail address you'll get match.com, which is more expensive and is loaded with A-Dubyas. If you get in touch with me privately I can set up an account based in Brazil for you (you can change the password) which will give you access to the right singles site.

You could also try Yahoo Personals and Amigos.com. Latinmail.com is one of the most popular freemail sites among latinoamericanos, and it looks like they have a section where you can put up a photo and profile plus look at others.

Hey thanks....I have/had the match.com thing. You are absolutely correct about the AW. (Still haunted over my experiences there....)

I may take you up on your offer for the Brazil-based account if I come up short. So far, no problem in making an abundance of contacts. Right now, I am just keeping it light to avoid an "internet relationship." (Harsh memories from match.com!)

Regarding the attractiveness of the women, I have to say they are pretty amazing.
