Bad To Worse

Unfortunately the nightmare of my American friend continues. Yesterday he left his apartment about four pm to buy cigarettes and has not been seen since. He's now been missing for over twenty four hours. The original attack about a week ago took place only a block and a half away from his apartment complex. It has to be the same guys. He met his calena via the net about four months ago and has been living with her and her young son. They have been planning to marry in August.

What's hard to imagine is that all events happened so close to his apartment.  I'd like to think that even if I had a gauntlet waiting for me outside my Cali condo I could traverse it to get to the beer store down the block.  In reality, I bet 95% of my wandering about Cali is via taxi, typically with point A and point B both having security guards.  How much walking are you doing nowadays CaliVet?  I hope this story has a good ending.  Reminds me of the guy in Medellin that lived in a strata 5 barrio for a year - never any problems.  One day, as he was walking outside his house, he was nearly fatally clipped by stray bullets from a instantaneous drive-by shooting of a politician that lived across the street.  Anytime you see 2 guys on a moto in Colombia - duck.

Good advise. I walk around a fair amount. In fact it pisses me off when my wife wants to take a cab someplace that's fifteen minutes on foot but maybe I'll have to tone down my attitude. Friend still missing.

One of the protections most guys have is they are not in Cali long enough for the bad guys to figure them out.But bad guys and their cohorts could get imformation back pretty easy when an obvious gringo takes up permanent residence.Sounds like they got this guy figured.Even if he moved there may be an informant that knows of him through the girl friends family maybe.
Hopefully he can get out of it this time.Then he should move at least.
Shows what can happen.Maybe its just luck it hasn't happened more.

It turns out that an agent from the embassy already planned to come to Cali to investigate the case of another dissapeared American and will be taking charge of my friends case.
