Guadjira area is located way in the north penisula of Colombia.

My girl told me the beaches are magnificent, blue water and white sand.

Also how about Melgar , about 2 hours outside Bogota, it is supposed to be a warm resort area.

Hello.   I was in Melgar 2 weeks ago when my novia took me to Giradot.   I did not spend the night there but had dinner and on the return visit lunch.   It is a warm location with many hotels of various sizes along the route.  I am not sure of the exact name of the road that we traveled but it was one wild and crazy experience.  I had a blast and will be going back again very soon.   For most of the trip to Melgar you will notice that you are mostly heading downhill, the reason for the warmer temperatures.   There are no beaches in Melgar that I am aware of it is not a coastal town but there are some nice lakes.

La Guajira (no d)is supposed to be spectacular but to get to the best parts requires hours and hours over rough tracks in jeep or so I'm told by a girl who went. The starting point is Riohacha several hours east of Barranquilla. I spent several days there in 1997 but didn't get to visit the peninsula. There is also a huge American owned coal mining operation there.
