A Long Island man is being held in Honduras on charges he killed his mail-order bride in front of her two children and butchered her body, police said.
Andrew Gole, 46, of Hicksville is slated to appear in a Honduran court tomorrow to face charges he murdered Martha Isabel Moncado in a Tegucigalpa hotel room last week.
Gole, an air-conditioning repairman, and Moncado met three years ago through a lonely-hearts ad in a Honduran newspaper, according to published reports.
They married in 2001.
The couple settled on Long Island and had a son eight months ago. But the romance foundered, and when the couple visited Honduras last month, Moncado said she didn't want to leave.
Gole allegedly killed her while the baby and Moncado's 5-year-old son from a previous relationship were in the room.
He then hacked up her body with an ax and saw, shoved the pieces into plastic bags and suitcases and dumped them on a road, authorities said.
He was arrested while returning a rental car. Cops say he was planning to flee to New York with his son after abandoning the older boy at a gas station.
If convicted, Gole - dubbed the Butcher of New York in Honduran newspapers - could face up to 40 years in prison.
