... in response to DCF in Peru, posted by eddiemd on May 10, 2003DCF (Direct Counsler Filing) You can do it in Peru. I went to the embassy myself a little less than 2 years ago. I didnt have a problem. You just have to be married there first and then file.(so it does take a leap of faith and courage, because I was thinking what if they dont approve it..humm..I thought, well thats when I will get a lawyer) Anyway, I felt confident and did all the paperwork myself, and I didnt use a lawyer. I just went to the INS web site and read the rules and requirements. I also hung out here and read a lot and asked questions until I understood what needed to be done. Basicly you fill out the I-130 form and the Bio's on both you and your wife.(I called the INS here in US to ask them questions on how to fill out the forms) You then turn those in at the embassy and roughly two weeks they send your wife a packet in the mail. The packet contains the list of things she needs for the interview and when she has them to call and set up an appointment. Some of the things will be shots, police record, etc.. Once the interview is over she is on a timeline and has 6 months to come here. She brings the sealed packet they will give her to the US. Once she arrives here, she will go through INS office there at the airport where she will fill out paperwork and get her passport stamped. I cant remember how long it takes to get the greencard...I think it comes in the mail like 2-3 months later, mean time her passport is her id. You have to take her to the Social Security office to get her SS#. Well Im getting off the subject now, but this should give you a basic idea.
