My wife and I just had our first interview to the US Embassy in Bogota last week... During the visit, they asked for many documents, which we had prepared in advance... They asked for the DS-230 for my wife, but not for mine... After the interview, we were given packet 3 & 4 and they scheduled my wife's second interview 21 days later...

The information in packet 3 & 4 stated that they wanted my DS-230 at the second interview... I thought, no problem, since I already had it prepared... Well, here's the rub... In section 2 of the DS-230, it clearly states that they want my signature to be witnessed by a US Consular...

Does this mean that I HAVE to be present for the second interview??? All other information stated that I didn't have to be there for the second interview... I don't mind going back to Bogota, but after recent posts about delays because of security clearances I really don't want to travel all the way back to Bogota just to be told that my wife can't get her Visa until her security clearance arrives... Especially since her second interview is only 21 days after the first interview...

Any ideas guys???

Thanks in advance...

Mark

I believe there is a part 1 and a part 2 for this form.  I was not sure if they wanted this both times or not, I had printed out 2 copies of everything anyway so I just had her take it with her.  I know they want that on the first visit.

I only completed the DS-230 (part 1 and 2) for my wife.  I did not complete one for me.  I did do a G325A, but they never asked for either of them.

I know that the avidavit of support must be notarized by a notary here in the states.  I didn't sign any papers in the presence of anyone.  Maybe she needs to sign it in their presence.

Thanks Hiker,

It seems like there's a bit of a discrepancy about what is needed and not needed anymore... I just don't want there to be any reason to delay having my wife's visa issued...

I'm sure you understand...

Any progress on your situation???

I know what you mean.  There are several items listed that she needs to bring for the second interview that were collected the first time and other things listed that will never be asked for.

Yesterday was week number 6 since we filed at the embassy.  I emailed the embassy 3 weeks ago today asking if it is a normal situation to come to the second interview only to be told the name check process has not been done yet.  One week ago I wrote a letter to my congressman regarding the situation.  In the letter I mentioned that the embassy had not replied to my two emails.  Yesterday morning I recieved an email from the office of my congressman saying they would begin looking into this.  Last night I received a one line reply from the embassy.  It said "This is normal. Average 2 to 4 weeks"  That was the total reply.

I am going to wait one more week then I will write a letter to the office of my senator.  Her office has a reputation for getting involved.

I hope your adventure goes much better.
