I called M. last night, took an hour and a half to get through, I said (only half joking) "Must be raining in Cali. That's why your phone is messed up". She said yes, been raining hard for quite some time, been raining heavy off and on for several days. Then this afternoon I checked the web----Whoa, look at this!!! News says that the Cali river (for you guys who have been there, that little creek that runs through the zoo) got out of its banks at 2:45 AM (Friday). The Canaveralejo, Aguacatal, Melendez y Santa Rita are also out of their banks, they say 2 million people are affected. I called M. again tonight to make sure she was alright, this time got right through (go figure) she says it's only about 2 feet deep in front of her house (Barrio Cuidad de Cordoba, extreem south part of town) but there's a lake (pond, slew, some kind of water body) about a mile away and the authorities are predicting that its also going to overflow some time early Saturday. She says it's still raining hard and Sandra STILL hasn't made it home from school (but she did call). The news article says 2 dead, several buildings and bridges destroyed and many people missing and they are using helicoptors for rescues. The worst dammage is in the north part of town. Cucuta, capital of Norte de Santender, is also flooding and reports at least 10 dead and heavy dammage.
Better call your loved ones and check up on them.
