Saw an article from the April 27, 1973 edition of El Pais anouncing the closure of the US Embassy in Cali. Here's a rough translation in part: " American experts stated that the majority of drug traffikers and Colombian prostitutes detained in Miami and New York obtained their visas in Cali." It also goes on to describe the falsification of documents including employment papers and rent receipts etc. etc to obtain visas to travel to the US for the purpose, you guessed it, of earning American dollars. That was thirty years ago! Some things never change.

...a minor sacrifice to ensure the proper quality of
bombas per square mile on Miami's fine beaches. (IMHO!)

So I guess they think they can control it better in Bogota ?
Is it easier to bribe someone in Cali? Seems more of a policy than location issue to me.
Question, you may know or have heard.I have heard for $5000-$7000 you can basically buy someone a tourist visa.I know there would be a process involved but I guess that amount of $$$ will buy you the needed cooperation. If this is so it might be an option for a guy who wants to bring a girlfriend here.
You wouldn't have to do the fiance or spousal visa, which I probably spent $3000 or so for (spousal) considering fees plus hotels airfare, not to mention time.Plus no affidavid of support.
Also,in your case, you married your Calena, are you going to do the spousal visa, and even if you did would it get her anything unless she actually lived here for a couple years?
Living there solves alot of problems. One might be travel.Without a visa there are very few countries she could travel with you to.Panama is the only one that comes to mind.I think even Spain requires a visa, but it is probably easier to get than a US visa.
Hmmm.At $7000 a pop I could import 5 Colombian hookers for $35,000 and set up a little latina bordelo.Hot looking chicks might be $200-$500 items vs the $20 or so they get in Cali.Times maybe 10 pops a shift,20 days a month,x 7.Were talking real money.Thats $700,000 a month at $500.Half for them, half for me.A few months and you could retire. And the fringe benefits. One of my buddies says the job he wants is to be in charge of quality control at a bordelo.
By the way, anybody know what Ed Beckwith is up to these days? He could probably come up with something like this.
Or to keep from getting busted  maybe be I could set them up in the Bahamas, and include a speedboat ride out of Miami in the fee.(only 60 miles,1 hour by fast boat). Then I could use the $35,000 I wouldn't have to spend to buy my boat.
Hey when I fantasise I do my homework. With the internet you can go wild.At Boatrader.com somebody in Miami had a 38 ft Excalliber Executioner with rebuilt twin 454's for $38,000.He would probably take $35,000.Actually I arrived at that fantasy after searching waterfront property in Miami(from $400,000 up,on canal with dock)and then thinking if a guy wanted to bring in a Colombian girlfriend he could pick her up by boat in the Bahamas, which she could travel to no problem.Beats a hike across the Arizona desert.
An idle mind can come up with lots of things. Then I have to return to reality.
Just joking,Patrick, don't ban me for rule violation. At least  I avoided politics.

Pete- I think you've got something there. I think your retired life is going to be plenty interesting so long as you stay out of the calaboose. Of course I would like to bring my wife to the states for a visit but the whole spousal visa process seems like an awfull lot of time and money for just a visit. So for now at least that's nowhere in the picture.

Your decision makes sense unless you have a real good reason for the spousal visa.Seems too much touble for a visit.Maybe?? her being married to you would help her get a a tourist visa, since they know you could get a spousal visa. But that probably makes to much sense for immigration.
But also, you were not forced in to a quick spousal visa in order to live with your wife like me,so I would give it alot of time before  I bit that off.Wish I had had that option.
Could save a person from digging themslves in a real hole like someone I know too well.
