Going to Cali soon. Would like to stay in hotel near Latin Best (I understand it is in chipi-chapi area). Anybody can recommend places with reasonable rate and in-suite airconditioner?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here - but Latin Best (Luz Amparo) used to be located in barrio la flora - a duplex in a residential neighborhood.  If that's still correct - I would not consider it very "close" to chipichape.  I don't recall a hotel that was very close at all.  So - don't worry about proximity you'll be taking a cab anyway.  I've stayed at the inter - very expensive, and I've also stayed at the Obelisco - more reasonable but not near as nice, on the river and not extremely far away.  The Obelisco has a roof-top pool (if they've got water in it), and their famous outdoor empanada area is right there in front.

Latin Best is still located in La Flora and is only about two blocks from Exito in the North.  I would consider it as being in close proximity to Chipi-Chapi and would imagine that a person could walk between the two in about 10 minutes at most.  Chipi-Chapi itself may be in La Flora but if not the avenue in front of it may be the dividing line.

As far as hotels, I highly recommend Traveler's Suites in Juanambu (North also).  It's a great hotel and close to Sexta and all the agencies.  A person can get a suite for about $55 a night but you can save a few bucks by asking to pay the peso rate which was 120,000 pesos the last time I checked.

I'm not sure what street La Flora starts at but directly accross from Chipichapi where you descend from the foot bridge is Vipasa. From Luz Amparo's to Chipi on foot is 15-20 minutes. I live about halfway between.

There is an agency cum condominium a few blocks from Luz Amparo's. I've heard guys use it more for it's condominium feature these days but don't know the details. Maybe some one who knows can speak up. A fifteen minute walk away are several apartments a block from Chipichapi (in front of Todelar Radio Station) owned by Piedad and Jose Mejia. They rent them to Americans for about $15 per night. I stayed in them for a number of visits before I rented my house. Very comfortable and very convenient to the agencies in North Cali. They can be reached at: pisarom@telesat.com.co or in Cali T:6593124.

Cali vet,

What kind of amenities do they have? Is it airconditioned? Do they rent it for 2 weeks or only long terms? In-suite bath?

Thanks

Kit- no air but nice breeze and fan, bath with hot water. They rent for a few days, a couple of weeks or long term. They also have a couple of more upscale places I'm not familiar with. I understand the guy who runs alegrete is in one of them (chisme though, not sure).
