For those of you interested, the Texas Service Center just made available
today their unofficial Processing Time Report to the American Immigration
Lawyers Assn. The report is dated 04/15/03, and reports that Texas is working on
I-129F petitions with receipt dates of 11/25/02, which means processing
time of 140 to 150 days. Folks with receipts dates in that range should be
hearing good news in the near future.
Best of luck,

Thanks for the update, Gary. It's STILL disgusting, but I won't shoot the messanger. Mine is dated Jan 21, 2003 if you go by when they actually received it (I have the certified mail receipt) and Feb 14 if you go by the date the NOA claims they received it (I've already got a sickening idea which date they're going to use).

What's your take on why they are so slow? Don't just say 'a lot of cases', there has to be more to it than that...I've heard rumors that for 3 or 4 months they did nothing but process TPS and/or refugee applications for 'friendly' Middle Easterners related to the war (even before the war started). Then I heard rumors that they got a list of the 'protesters' and processed about 100-150 of their cases in one weekend of massive overtime, just to shut them up and keep their own  incompetence out of the press.

Wow, you wrote all that just for my question? I'm flattered. :-)

Seriously, it is a very good article which shows that you know your stuff and put a lot of thought into writing it. But it is still frustrating to wait and wait (and wait)  while TPS's and H1-B's jump the line ahead of you. Maybe they should give our $110.00 back too if they can't process them in a reasonable time, 'pay for performance'...what a concept.

Isn't there ANYTHING that can be done about those INS low lifes? Betcha if our ladies had waded the Rio Bravo or arrived via raft they'd already be getting food stamps and free medical care.

Maybe they are busy trying to keep the raghead terrorists out of the country.....Huh  They do have alot of different people and organizations breathing down their necks at this time.  Its not their fault if somebody swims the Rio Grande, blame the Government for not putting the army on the borders where they belong.  You have to admit that processing a fiancee visa is not the number one priority for the country right now, although I can sympathize with individuals who are waiting.

Blame the 'welfare' state for attracting them. I've seen the immigration pattern of illegals here (I live in Dallas) change dramaticaly in the last 10 or so years. What you used to see was a bunch of hard working men (and a few women) working like slaves and sending most of it back home to support their families. Maybe drinking a little too much on Friday night, but otherwise keeping out of mischief and not bothering anybody. Illegal? Technicaly yes, but on the whole making a positive contribution to the US...today EVERYBODY and his dog is comming and overloading our facilities (hospitals, schools etc). Yes, the hard workers who earn their keep still come (and I respect them for it, if my children were hungry, I too would do what ever it takes to support them), but now days, so do many of the dregs.

Personaly, I favor some kind of 'semi open' immigration policy, where people (properly screened for criminals and deseases etc. of course) could come here legaly. They should be given a fair deal, not exploited by the labor contractors and farm bosses as they were in the 'bronceros'(spelling?) program of the 1950's, but not be entitled to 'suck the system dry' either, like it's been turning into lately. But I doubt it will ever happen, the INS (BCIS, whatever) doesn't have the staff to properly administer such a program and too many vested interests LIKE using cheap, exploitable labor, (illegals for roofing, meat processing and farming etc., and H1-B's trying to steal MY I.T. job--ask lswote about that-he's right, you know) while on the other hand the 'poverty pimp' contigent has become an industry in its own right, with a huge interest in having more and more 'helpless' people who need their 'help' show up.

Well your correct when you state that it my not be their number one priority to process my visa request, but it sure was a priority when they cashed my check for $110!

Why did you K-1 go through Texas when your profile shows you living in Florida?  Shouldn't your paperwork go through Miami?

No....when filing a K-1 visa there are only 4 service centers you can file at. In the North it's Vermont, in the west it's California, midwest and North Pacific Nebraska, and in my case it's Southeast which is the Texas service center. You cannot change unless you move. Miami is a substation and handls local issues re:adjustment of status. I would use Orlando for this.
