Those of you who are interested in Latin American women, especially Colombianas, may wish to look at “In the Land of God and Man” by Silvana Paternostro. Ms. Paternostro is a Colombiana who writes about sex roles and sexual culture in Latin America. Her perspective is mildly feminist point of view influenced by her years growing up in Barranquilla, living in the United States the last several years and her research and travels in Latin America.
Ms Paternostro does not even mention the MOB phenomenon but spoke very favorably of her American boyfriends. She is obviously friendly and sympathetic to the LA male though she is very negative about what the culture does to women. While no one on this board will have her point of view, hers is a different and enlightening perspective. Just a diamond should be examined by looking at all of its facets, you may wish to vicariously examine the world of the Latina from Ms Paternostro’s perspective.
Interestingly, she gives several powerful reasons why Colombianas might prefer American men which have nothing to do with economic opportunities or getting away from the violence.
