The author will no doubt sqeeze another couple of chapters out of his recent experience of being detained by the AUC along with two adventure seeking kids. Course he termed  it "kidnapped". He admitted later walking TOWARD the gunfire. His little group included himself, a young guy and a hot looking young chic. I wonder who was with whom.

If this TV program is by that "most dangerous" guy that trys to find trouble its not much use.You can sure find trouble if you go looking for it.Triping in the jungle near Panama in a known Rebel zone has little relavance to Colombian dangers for a normal traveler. He's licky he didn't get his A-- shot.

By your logic then any reporter in the world who gets killed covering wars are no use either.  All the journalists in Iraq were "looking for trouble?"  This guy is a respected journalist who reports on the worlds most dangerous places, not a job anyone else wants and he knows what he is talking about.  If it werent for people like him there would be little knowledge of the rebels who were fighting the Taliban, the chechen rebels, and countless other world hotspots.  What the people here dont like is when he tells it like it is about Colombia.  I doubt he was looking to get shot when taken by the AUC, he doesnt have a death wish.

A guy who goes looking for the "most dangerous places" is nowhere close to a war reporter. This guy is looking for sensationalist stories, seeking out trouble to have something to create a sensationalist story on.Kind of reminds me of the Crocidile hunter guy who finds animals to annoy to create a show.He is at least intertaining but if he gets bit its his own damm fault for screwing with the animal.
I don't think it is anything like an objective report on the real situation.Reporters trying to inform are in a whole other catagory I think.
Just my opinion.

He's damned lucky he got picked up by the AUC who generally speaking don't seek out foreigners to kidnap. I sat next to a table of them one morning at a panaderia in a village north of Cali and they had no interest in me. Had what's his name been picked up by the FARC he'd be donating his royalties to the guerrilla and enjoying the mountain scenery for years to come. In fact I bet he knew very well they were paras. I'd be interested in hearing about the tv program if anyone cares to report.

Right,
I just hope people don't confuse what he did with general travel to Colombia, watching what your doing and sticking to safer places.Your right, its dangerous enough, without taking really stupid chances.

Forget it.  This has been tried before.  Whenever somebody tries to alert people of the actual situation in Colombia it inevitably turns into a bash America bloodbath let by none other than you know who....I dont have to say his name, we all know who it is.  I can already hear it now....."Hey, theres crime in America too"....or, "people get kidnapped here too......" or "Detroit is more dangerous than bogota...."
