On latin woman list Larry Glickman basically explains the differences in choices we have in Latin America with a "Market approach".Its basically supply and demand. In colombia for instance, much better supply of women, less demand from available acceptable guys equals lots better choices, the opposite of what we experience here.
I think this is true, but there are potential problems when making choices of a wife from the "market Dynamics" that exist.

Below is my response to Larry.

Larry makes the case for the market approach to the issue. There is alot of truth in what he says and it basically explains the better choices we have in Latin America, specifically Colombia.
There can be problems associated with choosing a wife in a system with these "market dynamics".
Mike raises a good point.Once the woman gets here she has entered a different market, even though she should be "off the market "at this point. The character of the woman and her cultural upbringing are important here.Does she think marriage is a sacred commitment or will she quickly play the new market.Latinas are a better bet in this area than ladies from other cultures because of usually strong family and religious values.way better than Russians, who might "trade up" at the first opportunity. But if a latina is not really happy or commited to the marriage this can become a factor. With the right girl it may not.But you are way ahead of a woman who lives here and already is in the better market.she will approach it from that standpoint for sure.
Another issue, which can be a factor in the first issue,is will a latina choose the benefits of marrying a gringo even if she is not in love with him,or maybe even if she doesn't really care much for him at all. This is a real possibility and that woman would be more likely to want out of the marriage later to pursue her chances in the better market.Once here and legal she can "switch markets",limited only by her love for her husband and her character.
So yes,you can get a "better deal" in the latin market.wether it will last depends on a number of factors. In my mind the 2 most important ones are:
1. Character of the woman.
2. Love for her husband.
There are alot of other factors, such as mutual goals, agreeability of personality, childrens issues, work and money issues.
Much has been said about the time needed to make a good choice. If number 1 and 2 can be determined quickly( be carefull here),alot of time may not be needed, but time will help insure that that determination is correct.
Of course this process is mistake prone.Being willing to admit a mistake and divest yourself quickly can be a big advantage. This is not always easy if you care for the woman and want to believe time will help the situation to improve.
So ,in short, the better market will get you a seemingly better catch.Having that work in the long run requires alot more wisdom and dilligence.
And maybe a little bit of luck.
