well, we filed in November 21 and today, she was told she will receive her visa tomorrow with her passport. all in all, it was very easy. costs, $150 for a friend of mine to do the paperwork, not including the fee of $110 the INS charges to file the petition. she payed for all the doctor visits, visa fee and so forth. now she is trying to get all her medical things done in bogota, seeing the dentist and other things, since is is so much cheaper there than here. she is also going to have to tell her work that she is quiting, which she is realy going to feel bad about, but she is extremly happy, and hopefully, she will be here the first week in april. my opinion, i still think the fiancee visa is easier than the spousal visa, but to each his own.

She is going for her interview on Wednesday.  Will she
get her visa the same day, or do they give it to her the
next day?

Congrats,

MJ

i think it depends on what time she gets there and they process her paperwork. she told me that their were so many people there, that they ran out of time, so they told her to come back tomorrow, to pick up her passport with her visa. she was also very nervous, because so many people were getting turned down by the government for visa's.i think she was there for almost 6 hours. she went on monday, but she arrived late 7:30, and people were lined up since 6:00am,so she arrived at 6:00am on tuesday.

That's great, good luck and much happiness when she arrives...now tell them to work on MY lady's case, ha ha. Let's see, it took you four months...It was two months ago today that I mailed my petition.

Well I am happy for you Mudd.  I am glad your visa didn't take 270 days.  It would have been a shame if you had gotten married earlier than you were ready for just because the spousal visa was easier to get than the K-1.  I hope you learn what you are hoping to learn when your fiancee is here.

i learned  a lot when she was here last year for three weeks, and since we have been dating for a year and a half, and i dont even want to talk about how many trips i have made to visit her, so i think i know her character pretty well, and that of her family also. as for the 270 days, man, what a mess!!!!! im glad that i didnt have to go through that :-) ill post again when she is here for longer then 3 weeks, since the last time she was here, she adjusted well to everything, even taking the bus by herself to her english classes.

I agree that the fiancee visa is a much better way to go over the spouse visa, but doing a direct consular filing is easier than either.  Basically I believe it boils down to a "pay now or pay later" thing.  The up front work of going the DCF route is much more envolved than that of the fiancee  visa, but once she arrives it is smooth sailing.  With the fiancee visa the real work is just beginning.

Of course going the fiancee visa route you do not need to deal with the notary in Cali.  That alone does have some value.  I am getting married next week in Cali and today the Notary that is going to marry us decided I needed another notarized document with an apostlle stating that I have no children under 18.  He said he needs the document by tomorrow.  I don't know if this is a ploy for more money or what.
