Aaron,
Fortunately for you I think you got raised in family where being a jive a-- wasn't an option. You probably couldn't be a rapper at Disneyland.
Family values,so important.
Am I wrong?

give you a little background. I am not trying to brag so don't take it that way.

My grandfather, raised his 3 siblings alone from the time he was 9. He made it, and got married at around 35 to a woman who was 13 years younger. I think the story has it that my grandmother didn't finish elementary school. They got married, then grandpa was drafted to fight in WWI. He came back and got a hard laborsome job in the nearest steel mill. They saved their money, even though with 11 children, they quickly bought a 40 acre farm. They grew gardens and had hogs.

Well, the kids grew up, and 5 of them became well educated, 2 Ph.D.s, one DMD, one pharmacist, and one aerospace engineer (my dad). They didn't play games. It was put up or shut up. However, there are some goof offs, like in all families. My dad sent his kids to school, he retired, and he bought a farm and has some real estate. We live within our means. We don't live a flashy life style. My dad doesn't believe in buying new cars !!!!! LOL !!!! He says, "it's a poor investment. Save your money, and buy some ground."

My mother's family, well my mother's dad left her mother to raise 8 children alone (1 boy, and 7 girls). He loved to chase the ladies too much. These women are the sharpest, but most extroverted and friendly women I have ever met. Calenas can't compete with them !!!! LOL !!!! They are very hard working, religious, but they like to have fun. BTW, they all have BBs (If you get my drift). My mom is a no nonsense person too, and she can be kind of a smart a** without realizing it. But, we put up with it.

That's all,

Aaron,
I presumed since you are an exceptional person you came from an exceptional family. Its really an amazing story. Our anchestors are really heros in many ways. And of course your family experienced racism far exceeding anything that still exists. But they didn't let it stop them.
Family values. If you have them you can overcome about anything. If you don't not much good happens untill someone breaks the cycle.
Both of my grandparents on my fathers side came from the same small village in the Basque provinces of Spain. My grandfather was 11 years older and they did not know each other in Spain. My grandmother was 11 years old when she was sent by her family with friends coming to America.I have the papers when she came through Ellis island. She never saw her family again except for one brother who followed. She married my Grandfather when she was 15.They had six children. All did well but they were still blue collar.Nobody really got an education untill my generation.
I agree with your dad about cars.Even though I used to be a car dealer specializing in European cars I have never bought a new car in my life. There is the old adage if you buy a used car you are buying someone elses troubles.More  accurate is you are taking advantage of someone elses bad judgement.I will buy my BMW 745 for about $20,000 after someone else has lost $50,000 on it.That will be about 4 years from now.It will be the same car with 70% of its life left.I will own it 5 years for a depreciation of $10,000,or $2000 a year, not $$50,000 or $10,000 a year.In the meantime I will drive an older BMW that was one the best cars in the world when it came out.I like to drive the best cars,I just don't like to waste money on them.
"Buy land, they aren't making any more",was a Will Rogers saying.Your dad is a wise man.I bet he worked with some guys who's Cadalac's are long since scrap metal and they have nothing to show for the money they made.

Also, it is very interesting that you are Spanish. Did you ever think of going to Spain, treating your wife to nice European vacation? If I have the money, by the time I get married, I would like to go to the island of Majorca, Spain for a honeymoon. I have a friend from there.

Aaron,
Basques are Spanish only in that they happen to live in Spain(and also France). Its a separate group of people with a separate language. The language is very difficult, you basically have to learn it as a kid or forget it.It pre dates the latin based languages such as spanish. It is one of the oldest languages in the world.I did not learn it because my mother was not Basque. The only time I heard the language spoken was at my grandparents. If I go to a Basque restaurant I usually don't tell them I'm Basque, they want to speak Basque to me.One guy says to me  "your not Basque you just have the name."
There are probably more people with my name in the little town of Lequeitio, Viscaya, Spain than the rest of the world total. My wifes friend from Cali works at a hotel in the Canary Islands and she has met people with my name.
There are alot of Basque names in South America. They were known as navigators and went on the early expeditions.Uribe is a Basque name. Many of these people with Basque names in South America have no idea the origin of their name. They have been there so long they lost contact with where they came from.I interviewed a girl with a very Basque name in Cali,Arristazabel. She didn't even know what a Basque was.
Most Basques in the US had ancestors who came over between 1890 and 1920,going mostly to Idaho and Oregon. There is an ethnic pride thing to keep the roots.
Basques usually make the news because a small group wants to split with Spain and are willing to be terrorists to accomplish that. They are a minority even in the Basque provences.
Maybe eventually we will travel to Europe.I would like to see the rest of South America first. But after recent events I will tell you I will get to Spain before France.

Pete,

My dad loves to talk about guys who buy cadalacs, but don't have a pot to p*ss in. My limit for a car is nothing over 25k, and never anything that gives lower than 20 miles per gallon.

Just letting something go I think would show maturity, try it and I think the vultures would go away.

That was a causal post of non-sense. I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way.
