Anyone ever stay at the El Belvedere Hotel in Bogota?  It looks like it is close to the US Embassy.

I stayed at the Hotel Capital last week, a deluxe Hotel located near the Embssay and the airport in Bogotá. There is also a Sheraton on the same block and it is operated by the same group, "GHL". They have several promotional rates. One is the "Overnight rate" which is for travlers who must overnight in Bogota when making flight connections and also a "USA Visa" for those visiting Bogotá for Visa business at the USA Embassy. These rates include continental breakfast and free transport to/from the airport and the Embassy! The rates are between Cpesos 135,000 and 145,000 (US$ 46 to $50)per night.

Their web site is:    www.ghl.com.co/hotel.php3?id=3.

This will take you direct to the Capital Hotel site. But, you can manuever from their to the Sheraton as well. Click on "planes" to see the promotional rates. I highly recommend this hotel, first class.

Thanks a lot!  This is exactly what I needed.  I am going to drag the Bogota trip out to three or four days, just to be away from the humidity in Cali.

By all means, be sure to ask for a key to the lock box in your room upon check-in.

If you are going to stay 3 or 4 days in Bogota, you will find the Capital a bit far from the downtown and North part of the city where the better shopping malls, restaurants, etc, are located. I was in Bogota for 7 days and I stayed at the Fontana Plaza (until the last night) in a fully furnished/equipped, one bedroom apartment and with daily maid service included. I arranged it through Travelers Suites   www.travelers.com.co/  . I have stayed there 5 or 6 times in the past. The rate is about US$50. per night (try to negotiate lower) and the place is ideally located almost across the street from Unicentro mall. About a half a block is a Internet cafe with DSL connection !!! It is called the "Learning Center". You are about 20 to 30 minutes by taxi, depending on traffic, from there to the US Embassy.

Thanks a lot.  You have shown me more what I was looking for than I found with hours of surfing.  I will stay at the Capital the first night, then after my embassy business is over with I will move to the Fontana Plaza.   Thanks again.

I stayed at the Capital twice. The first time the maids and the bellboys stole clothes, CD's and a ring from my wife by coming into our room when we where out. The next time I stayed at the hotel, I locked everything in the safe in the room. My friend was staying in another room and had a new digital camera stolen. I told him to lock it in the safe but he thought he would hide it. Bogota is the worst for theft and lying taxi drivers.

Yeah, I want to do a little sight seeing there but my girlfriend wants to go and take care of business then get back to Cali.  I am about tired of Cali for a while.
