I just used the services of Avianca Express to send something to Cali for the fifth time.  I have seen a couple of negative comments about them on here in the past.  Maybe I will have a problem sending something on the 6th time but so far I am very impressed.

At Christmas I sent a DVD player and 10 dvds.  I sent it to Avianca Express and it was at my novia's front door the next day.  The longest it has taken them to deliver something after receiving it in Miami has been two days.

For this last transaction I sent my original documents and apostles to her.  She will have them translated there and then present them to the notary before I ever leave here.  I want to get on the plane knowing everything is ready.  It cost my nine dollars for UPS 2 day delivery from Dallas to Miami.  Then Avianca express charged me fifteen dollars to have the package delivered to her door.

What did it cost you to send the DVD player and how much did you have to pay in Tax?

           Thanks for the info,

The shipping cost was about 25 dollars, but I think the Colombian taxes were something like 75 dollars.  I had no idea when I sent it the taxes would be that high.  I did have a lot of other stuff in the box besides the DVD player though.  Once I sent a good sized box of clothes for a birthday gift and there were no taxes.  Another time I sent a large box of toys to a childrens organization and again no taxes.  I don't know if electronics is different.  I know in Mexico if I drove across the border with a Television I would have to pay duty tax, but if I took it on an airplane there is no taxes as long as I only have one.

Also in that shipment ti Cali I had the entire collection of Stevie Ray Vaughn cds.  I was hoping she would aquire a taste for his music but I guess it just ain't going to happen.

I used it in Los Angeles yesterday. I had to drive to down town LA. Because Avianca no longer goes to Los Angeles it now takes two days and they only have sevice every other day.

The US Postal Service has express delivery. Has anyone tried that?

We don't have one in Dallas either.  I just ship the item to their Miami office.  If I know the cost I include a check (they do not wait for the check to clear, they ship it immediately).  If I do not know the cost I include instructions for them to contact me when they receive the package and I provide them with my credit card info on the phone.  I address my package the same as I would if I was shipping it directly to her in Cali.  Then I put that package inside another package addressed to Avianca Express.  I know they recently changed their address in Miami so I included it below.

Last time I sent a package using USPS Global
Express, they told me that the truck was stolen in route
in Colombia and I lost $300 worth of non-refundable
airline tickets. They never reimbursed me either and it
was insured.  Avianca sounds pretty good ... I'll try them
next time.

Yes, it took one month with regular express mail! That being said I used the wrong express option.  It was handed over to the Colombian postal system.  I used regular US express.  There is another express. I think it is called global express which costs about 40 some bucks. Or maybe more now. This was two years ago. I used the cheaper version for about 19 dollars. I think if you use the more expensive option it is delivered by a contractor and takes less time.

You can use Avianca from anywhere in the US.  All you have to do is send your package to Miami via the US postal system. The last time I used them it took two days with priority mail to get to Miami and a couple of days to get to Colombia. Also they accept personal checks.

I have had the same excellent service from them.  On the other hand I have used Federal Express and it was a disaster.  Over two weeks and very expensive.
