The next morning, Saturday, I went to an Internet cafe to check my email. Along the way, I was enjoying the scenery at the beaches. Most were crowded and the curvy women in bikinis were out in force. One particular lady, medium dark skinned with a pretty face, about 5'4" and 120 lbs, had a petite but curvy body. By this I mean breasts that were proportional to her size, a slim waist, noticeable hips, and a non-flat behind. Not a boyish figure. She was wearing a bikini that covered only the nipple part of her breasts and NONE of her behind. She was a delight to look at and it must have been very obvious how hard I was looking at her. She approached me and asked if I was interested in her. She turned out to be on the program! Or perhaps a jinatera/hustler label would be more appropriate. After I politely declined her offer of sexual services, she persisted by offering to be my guide around the city and to help me practice Portuguese. Those latter services appealed to me and I took her cell phone number, intending to call her only if I struck out with the Latin Euro ladies.
While I was out, I discovered that there was going to be a parade later that afternoon. I decided to stay in town to watch it. I had thought it was a rehearsal for Carnaval and wrote so in a post to LWL that day. Brasilians corrected me. It was actually the Caminhada Axe. My visitor's guide had that this event was taking place on Jan 26, but it had been postponed. It is parade of representatives of various cultural groups operating in Northeast Brazil but mostly in Bahia. These included, music schools, dancing schools, indigenous groups, historical groups, and advocacy groups. So music schools had drummers and other musicians. The dancing schools had dancers in various costumes. The 2 indigenous groups had their members dressed in traditional clothing. The historical groups had representations of important events in Bahian history such as the conflicts between Portuguese ranchers and the indigenous tribes who lived on the land the ranchers wanted to use for their cattle. It was very interesting but only moderately impressive. I am very glad I saw it this time, but I would not make a special trip to see it again.
