Two businessmen, an American and a Mexican involved in scouting sports players were kidnapped by common crooks from a hotel in south Cali (could it be the Pacifica Royal?) They were rescued yesterday when the car they were being transported out of the city in came to a police roadblock. I wonder where they were being taken...to be sold to the FARC?

I used to stay at the Pacifico Royal, the best hotel in Cali in my opinion.I always felt very safe at the hotel.I can't immagine anybody coming in there and kidnapping someone.Right past all the staff at the door and the lobby? No one called the cops?
If this is true its about the most blatant case of kidnapping at what I thought was the safest place in Cali.
Lets find out that hotel. And the rest of the details.

... in response to Pacifico Royale??, posted by Pete E on Feb 13, 2003

The story was in El Pais and all it said was a hotel in the south of the city. I'm not trying to start rumors about the Pacifica Royale. It just seems like a place two foreign businessmen one Gringo one Mexican might stay if they were in south Cali. Just a guess.

From todays El Pais (judiciales)

This won't do, won't do at all. Were the American and Mexican working together or just kidnapped together? Was either of them down there for the reason we go there? (Can't tell from your wording if both or only the Mexican were sports scouts).

From what I gathered from the news yesterday both were businessmen/sports scouts. Neither came to visit the marriage agencies. The report said they were taken at gunpoint from their hotel but didn't identify it.
