I've been reading posts while waiting for my account to activate and I have found few posts about Peru. I thought I would tell you of my experiences for those of you open to looking beyond Colombia.

I came into a little money last year, quit my job and went to S.A.  First I went to Ecuador and spent 2 weeks in the Galapagos. If you take one expensive trip in your life, make this one it! I have traveled around the world and then some, but that trip was like being on my own Nat. Geographic expedition.

I then went to Peru and ended up spending the rest of my time there.  I wrote to 20 or so women between 25-34 and almost all of them responded and were willing to meet with me. I made contact with them through www.blossoms.com. Many of the women I met were dentists; it must be the up and coming thing. Others worked in health services, and the rest were either unemployed or office/clerical types. They were all very pleasant, decent-seeming women. I didn't think any of them were visa-diggers. One did stand me up. Oh well, her loss. I spent a dizzy few weeks before I settled on one and I have not regretted it since. I was able to spend 2 months with her before heading home. We were apart 4 months before I returned last December for 2 weeks and we are even more in love than before.  Next time I return to Lima, I will propose to her.

Lima is a big city and doesn't feel too foreign a place from home. I could find anything there I wanted. Pickpockets/muggings seem to be the main criminal activity, but I never had a problem. My poor GF has been mugged 4 times, though. I find Peruvians very friendly and open. I speak Spanish fluently and felt like I could speak to anyone. In fact, I often did speak to strangers, usually because they initiated the conversation.  There doesn't seem to exist the Gringo stigma; in fact, they use that term as a general name for North Americans and it is not pejorative.

Looking over the postings here and the Colombian sites, I sense a change in what's going on in Colombia. I haven't been there, so I'll pose it to you who have and are involved with Colombianas. Is the agency business becoming main-stream in Colombia? Is it attracting more women who are simply looking for a visa? Is there a growing understanding of how to use the system for their advantage, i.e.: do the minimum necessary to get a visa and get in country and then ditch the guy?

It's like a wave gathering momentum. As it is growning it gathers those who are willing to take risks, perhaps in a sense the "best" that's out there. But as it continues to grow it starts to pull in those the followers, the visa-diggers, etc. The international dating agency business in Peru is growning, but it's nowhere near the level of activity in Colombia. I wonder if Peru is on the growning side of the curve, while Colombia is on the decending side. I also wonder if, how and/or when the wave will crash.

I welcome comments from all, especially those interested in Peru, its sites and women. I do NOT mean to say directly or imply that Colombian women are more problematic or anything negative about them. I just had this observation and would like to hear from others. Thanks guys.

You say if you only make one expensive trip in your life make it Galapagos.  I haven't been to Galapagos.  I have been to Iguazu Falls.  Have you?

If you still have some of that money you came into, I would suggest considering a trip to Iguazu Falls.  Words (nor photos) cannot convey the experience.

No, I have not been to Iguazu and it looks very impressive. When I say expensive, I mean $150 a day. The Galapagos is unique because you can interact with the animals by getting right next to them, we snorkelled with sharks, seals, jellyfish, rays, penguins, marine turtles and iguanas. Every day was different from the previous, every beach was a different mix of sand and shells, the animals varied from island to island, I could go on. I hope I don't come across as snobbish; I just had such a wonderful, underanticipated (because I thought it would be an OK tour, not the trip of my life) experience of a place that few people go to, that I wanted to put in a plug for it.

Thanks for those links! I'd love to hear about other places you've been to and would recommend in SA.

Oh, and as far as that money I came into, this fool and his money have gone separate ways. Sad

What kind of look do the Peruvian women have generally?  Do they look more European or Indian?

It wouldn't be politically correct for me to say it, but my Colombian wife said it, so...

We're watching Laura En America and she has a group of Peruvians on her show.  The young man has a pregnant girlfriend and Laura has just brought out his other girlfriend.  Typical stuff.

My wife was watching and she said "Puros indios.  De la selva."  My wife is very indian, but Colombian indian.  The Peruvian look is very different.

To watch "LAURA" (Peruvian TV trash) it's exactly like to Jerry Springer here. What you see in that show is a bunch of red necks. It doesn't mean the all the Americans are red neck... you got it?

There's a lot of that in SA. It really blew my mind a few years ago when I learned just how racist and class-conscious Latinos are. The hatred against "indios" is so strong that when Alan Garcia returned to Peru after the statute of limitiations ran out on the crimes he committed while President of Peru (it was under his administration that the terrorists grew completely out of hand, the economy when into hyper-inflation, to name a few things) to run again for President against Toledo, who is American educated with a Ph.D. but is from indigenous stock, Alan Garcia nearly won the election. That is how strong the prejudice is against "cholos" in Peru.

I would say that Peruvian women look more Indian than Colombian women.  Furthermore, it's a different Indian look than the Indian women of Colombia in my opinion.  You can get an idea by watching Laura En America (on Telemundo, I think).  It's a talk show broadcast from Peru.  Laura's usually interviewing some regular Peruvian couple and then she shows candid video of the husband running around with another woman.

To me the Peruvian look is not as appealing as the Colombian look, but a step up from Bolivia or Equador.  To each his own.  Entre gustos no hay disgustos.

I have to agree with you Steve... I have a friend who is married to a very sweet and attractive lady from Lima, but she is not a striking beauty... She has a european appearance with a dash of inca in her genetic makeup...

The Chinese, Spanish and Indian genetic influences in Colombia and Venezuela have produced a strain of the human species that as we all know, are absolutley gorgeous...

It's something in the "jeans"... Pun intended...

Just my opinion...

In general, they are more european in the larger cities and more indigenous-looking in the countryside. There are mestizos and there are the indigenous people. Mestizos are mixed european and indigenous and they range from blond to quite dark. They tend to be in the urban areas. Indigenous women also have a range of colors, but my impression is that their features: nose, cheeks, etc. are "non-european". They do have a particular kind of eyes that I have seen nowhere else. I call them Inca eyes and they can be very striking, especially when combined with high cheekbones. There also are some descendants of slaves along the coast.

Sorry if I couldn't generalize enough for you.  It's that they don't fit into any one category. De todos colores, do todos sabores.

Most of the people there are Indian or mixed.  I dont know the exact percentage of "spanish" people but its not that high and centered in Lima. Of course, half the country's populatin is in Lima too.  You see alot of girls in Lima that can remind you of Bogota, but not the numbers.  But you only need one so if you get lucky the numbers are irrelevant.  This whole agency business is still not widely accepted there and some of the girls I met would never dream of telling their families or even some of their friends.  You have more luck just going out and hitting on pretty girls you see at different places. It actually works quite well as it a huge city and the number of gringos who go there is quite small. Its not a bad place to give it a shot and the best part is in certain sections of town you dont have to worry about crime at all and can freely walk the streets at all hours of the night.  Its worth checking into unless a guy is dead set on going to Colombia, which I personally dont think is necessary but to each his own.
