What's up brothers, If you are a guy going through BS in a man's life, dirvorce, dating the wrong women, and job related stress, then you are a brother.
Anyway, I've put down my deposit for a trip on a tour to BAQ.  I've gotten the skinny on the trip from the company, now I would like info from you.  I'm going with "I Love Latins", and I've seen the videos.  What have you experenced on this trip.  A sex tour or romance, either way is alright, but I would like to know first hand.  Hey, if you can help, please do.

I have been to Barranquilla more than a few times, as I was married to a girl from there.

The town itself is more or less a $h*thole, in my opinion.  A very industrial-port type town.  Not too clean, not a lot of sites of cultural significance like Cartagena, Bogota, or Medellin.

I have met Sam Smith  before.  I don't have a beef with him, but alot of guys I know who have been on one of his tours would not pay again!

Robert Frank's agency there has a much better reputation.

The word about BQ is there have been alot of tours there over the last 2 years, and it's supposedly getting 'gringoed out'.  It used to be seen as an overlooked town.  Not anymore.

I was looking into this. I've been to Ukraine & will be going back however I'm half Latino so I was thinking perhaps going over to Colombia. I saw some VERY nice girls on that page so I thought I check it out. Speaking Spanish obviously would help a lot however I just don't know as much about Colombia as I do of Ukraine. Any help is appreciated. So who is this other guy or agency I ougth to check out?

I think Robert Frank's deal is called Classy Colombian Ladies...not sure, I never went the agency route so I'll defer to the archives.

When I said 'gringoed' out, that doesn't just refer to anglos...I'm talking about all types of foreigners that come to Colombia looking for wives.  If you speak Spanish, that's obviously a huge advantage.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I can't imagine how people think they can have a successful relationship without communication skills.  Some dude hunched over a laptop with translation software is a case in point.  But, on this board and others, you will find guys trying to rationalize how they will somehow be an exception.

Good luck,
JunFan

I have to agree with you junfan.  I am a Colombian born, fluent spanish speaking American citizen who often times has trouble CLEARLY communicating with my wife.  I cannot imagine what the rest of you must feel, when the communication link gets broken.

Good point about the communication skills. I speak spanish but I wouldn't consider a woman that didn't speak any english. After all, she'll have to be able to assimilate here if a relationship is going to survive.

...I have ever heard.  So, you mean to tell me that one should expect a Colombiana to have any sort of command of the English language in the time it takes to get a Visa, which is maybe 6 mos on the outside?  Get real.

Anyone who follows this advice is cruisin' for a bruisin'.

It can take years to achieve fluency.  For those who have studied Spanish, you'll know how much work it takes to learn a language.  Learning English is harder than learning Spanish.  I wouldn't expect a woman to speak English well when she arrives even if she is enrolled in classes while waiting for the paper work.  That's a short time span compared to the total amount of work required to learn English well.

The key is her motivation and work ethic.

Not only will studying Spanish help you to communicate better, it will also give you a more realistic idea of what it takes to learn a foreign language.

Good point Patrick...

Until you have tried to learn a foreign language, never underestimate the difficulty of this process... My novia has been studying Ingles for five years, has spent a year in the US and still has some problems communicating... Basic conversation is no problema, but more detailed or complex conversations move quickly over her head...

It's can actually be a means to bond with your novia if looked upon as a challenge... My novia helps me with my espanol and I help her with Ingles... We help each other, therefore building a closer bond between us...

As you said, motivation is the key...

Where did you find classes this cheap?  My girlfriend said the classes were much more expensive that this (she lives in Bogota).
