Finally ... Our K1 Visa was approved!

After a long wait, we finally received our approval notice from the
INS Nebraska Service Center on 2/1/03.  By the way, our
application was originally received by them on 8/20/02.  They
said it would take up to 3 months, yet it took more than 5!  Does
anybody know how long it takes for the approved application to
arrive in Bogota, and how long till my fiancee receives her Packet
3?

Ps - This application was filed without the help of an attorney. I
simply purchased a do it yourself kit for 49.95 and it worked
perfectly.

I filed with the Nebraska Center also. Took them about
five and a half months. She got  her packet with an
open interview date three weeks after I received the
approval notice. Medical, interview, visa stamp in four
days in Bogota.  I recommend to be very, very prepared
with paperwork at the Embassy. If you want more

Hey, Mr.dallasteve if you don;t mind me asking,is this not your second time dealing with the k--1 visa.I saw that someone had posted that you only get one k--1.I talk with a INS guy and he told me that this is not true as long as everything was on the up and up..no fraud on my part.....

This was my second K1.  I listed the previous K1 on the application and explained that we married and divorced.  The INS did not raise any questions.  I believe the law places no limit on the number of times you can do this.

My fiancee (now wife) got her notice from Bogota before I ever got any word from the INS.  It took about 4 weeks from the time I mailed my application to the INS until she got a letter from Bogota.  But that was back in August and one poster here believes that it never happened anyway.  Maybe I'm just dreaming.  She sure looked real when I woke up this morning.

Did your wife have to go to the special doctor in Bogota
for her exam?  How long was the wait time before she
could be examined by their doctor?  How long did the
whole process take in Bogota?  What else should I
know?

Yes, she had to use the embassy-approved clinic in Bogota.  I think she could go the next day after she got her letter, but first she needed to get copies of a lot of documents in Cali before she made the trip to Bogota.  

When she got to Bogota she had to go to the clinic and they told her that she and her children needed some vaccinations.  That jacked up the price.  I don't know the final bill.

Then when she went to the embassy she didn't know which line to get in and so she asked someone who worked there.  They told her the wrong line and when she got to the window, the correct line had closed for the day.  She had to go back the next day.  

The next day everything went smooth.  She was in Bogota about 1 week.  Flights were cheap at that time even with only 2 days advance purchase.  I have no idea why.  I've given up trying to make sense of airline ticket pricing.
