Had it done about 5 yrs. ago--I was only 23 I saved for a whole year and did it at Lakeshore eye clinics in Chicago. I paid a total of 2300 but had a big discount because it was money upfront. Is it me or are like eyeglasses as rare as 8-track systems in 82' ford escorts-lol. Listen the point is I find it amazing how many people want to have this surgery (RK) done but are to paranoid with the surgery.
God its still relatively inexpensive in the states about 1000 per eye but that is with the updated laser surgery--the one I had was older the surgeon had this pen-like instrument with a wire connected to a computer the anesthesia was a couple of drops of a liquid-the surgeon was literally cutting me up--lol--god was I scare--anyway nowadays its just zapped with a laser. It has been 5 yrs. and I am extremely happy with the results--still 20/20 on one and 20/25 on the other my best suggestion is to do your research and choose a reputable and well known doctor who has done the procedure hundred or thousands of times and when you pay insist it will be him/her that will do the WHOLE procedure and NOT his?her assisstants....as for dental work I believe Colombia offers great proffesional dentists with great prices just use a well known dentist..--Colman

Colman,
Once you get mid 40's plus your eyes will not adjust enough to focus for reading if the surjury has you seeing good at a distance.I presume that is the case for a person that had the surjury done at 23 or 45.So you are probably headed for reading glasses somewhere down the line. But if you can get 20 years of good function I guess its worth it.Being 50's already it was certain I would need reading glasses right away.
The other issue is there is a progression of techniqes and Knowledge here.Alot of peope who had the old RK done have problems with glare, some severe.Scar tissue could cause a problem down the line also.Waiting has a benefit as better techniqes and more knowledge comes about.
I know, everything has its risks, including Colombianas. Each person must make personal choices here. Also, reminds me of a discussion of economists, one says,"well,in the long run,---", another one says "in the long run we are all dead."
Sounds like it worked well for you.

Pete

Yes the old surgery had many "pesky" inconveniences. I remember having the surgery done in late winter-Feb/March--the sun did not come out as often as in the summer but the snow did hurt my eyes (in the morning going to school, sun reflected on snow) then summer came still was a little sensitive but always wore sunglasses anyway now it seems the sun, bright lights dont bother me as much as an average person or pre-surgery. Yes, age is a factor and the surgeon did tell me about this-they were very pro. about it but I already know that most people will eventually need glasses (for me maybe 15 yrs. who knows maybe in 5 for reading) my concern was nearsightedness wish was corrected.--Colman
