For the DR, there is a great forum at www.dr1.com  They have sections for travel, business and living in the DR. Many many ex pats. Some have been successful moving here, others leave with their tails between their legs. When a poster who hasn't done his homework asks about moving there, many try and dissuade them. They probably err on the side of caution.

For example on Dominican guy will continually post that you nee d to pay $1,000 per month in rent or you will live poorly. he drives a Jag and also posted about making 150k in one day. Not the typical case of living down here.

I am not sure if I will be here long term but can definitely see returning here to retire. My money would go further. If you buy and apartment or house, there are very few expenses after that.

One of the board memebers here is coming down this weekend. I am picking him up at the airport and will show him around a bit.

I wonder what availability is like around Las Terrenas and Semana as far as being close to the beach. On the other hand it's cool and green up in Jarabacoa.

Many people tend to move to Las Terrenas. I met a few couples that vacationed there and decided to move there. A lot of French influence. I have never been but heard it is beautiful. Right now, I need to be near the big congested city as I am looking into some business oppurtunities and my novia has all of her family here.

I mentioned Cabarete and she sort of frowned. It would be very far from her family.

Never been to Jarabacoa either but have heard it is beautiful. The whole Island is pretty green. Some very beautiful places mixed in with some extreme poverty. People are very friendly and there is a ton of stuff to do.
