As bogota vet has reminded me I haven’t posted the continuation of my saga so here is a summary of my tale of good luck. I was scheduled to be in Cali on November 20. On Nov 2 I met a lady from Medellin through a Colombian friend of mine. She turned out to be perfect for me and I decided to cancel my trip to Cali and just spend time with her. She is 36. I am 49. She is very intelligent and has a graduate degree. She is Paisa. She the nicest person I have ever met. Oh yeah. She’s very beautiful too. She is here on a six month tourist visa and staying with her sister. We have spent almost everyday together since we met. This has been the best two months of my life. I proposed to her at 12:01 Jan 1 and she said yes. Her visa expires in April so we will be getting married in Medellin in April. I think the most incredible thing about this romance is that it happened despite the fact that she did not speak any english and I did not speak spanish. I am amazed at just how well we were able to communicate with each other from the beginning. All we had was a pocket translator and a dictionary. In two months we have progressed to the point that we can discuss wedding plans and future plans with relative ease. It just takes a LOT of patience. We did have some frustrating moments when we could not get our points across. At any rate things worked out very well. I am very excited about going to Colombia in April. I am glad that I cancelled my trip and took a chance on what turned out to be the most wonderful woman in the world. I wish you all the best of luck in finding that very special Colombiana.

Lucky gringo!!.
It appears Colombians like and congregate in specific areas
in the US;  Miami, Atlanta, Los Angeles, NYC/Newark, Houston.  (San Francisco/ SanDiego have some also)
These areas probably account for 80% of Colombians in the US.

Last accurate city census the Chicagoland area had about +55,000 people of Colombian heritage. Probably dwarfed by NYC or Miami but what is amazing is that in Chicago there is an annual Colombian Independence parade (also not quite as large as the Mexican, PR, or St.Patrick parade) but the point is it does have one. Whats even about 10x as popular amongst all Latinos and even non-Latinos is the "Colombian Picnic" event every year (27 yrs. going on strong) every July. It is sponsered by CUPULA---C-lombianos U-nidos- P-ara- U-na L-abor A-activa. ---Colman
