chismes (gossip) for you. The other day passing the restaurant popular with many of us called Simon Parilla the taxi driver told me the owner is a big mafioso who is on the lam at the moment. Just another reminder of how incredibly deeply entrenched narcotrafico is in this city. (I know, I know, don't believe everthing the taxi drivers tell you.) On that subject someone else told me the police checkpoints in town are pulling over new Land Cruisers etc. with deep tinted windows and asking the driver where his office is and to show a business card. If he can't produce the information the question becomes what's he doing in a fifty thousand dollar ride?

The last sentence is true. I have seen alot of expensive
SUVs in Cali, especially entering the city from the South,
that were being investigated by police. My cunao tells me
there is an on-going crack-down on theives and narcos.

I doubt the story about Simon Parilla. I remember when he only had the small restaurant three years ago.It was always jammed and people were driving from as far away as palmira for the food. Rancho Jonas was just down the street and half empty on sunday.
As to the fifty thousand dollar ride they can afford the bribe. Most of the crooks and farc use taxis the better to melt in to the traffic. You can't seriously believe that they don't know who the crooks are and need to stop the expensive cars to find out. JIM C

Just passing along some amusing chismes. When it comes to the actual facts of the matter you don't know and I don't either and there you have it.
