Hi May,

Two of my "must eat" food's in the RP are:

1.)"Killing me softly" chicken- Chicken which is slowly killed  by poking bbq sticks through it. Then it is lightly turned over a fire, just enough to burn off the feather's. Very light tasting ckicken, sarap! To my knowledge a delicacy in the Corrdillara's mountain region.

2.) "Jumping palutan"- For those that do not know, "palutan" is finger food's eaten while drinking. This palutan is tasty AND fun. Tiny live shrimp  in a tasty sauce that jump around, so they are a bit hard to catch, but if you get one, it's worth it. Good trick is to let the other's get drunk before you, so you have a better chance of getting the most. Smiley

Those are two of my favorites.

I was at Seafood City last night and they had Chippy corn chips on sale for $.69. Also, baluts are on sale for $.79 if you're interested :-)

Or Pocky?  The first time I'd seen Storck Candy (imported from Germany) was when I was in the Philippines in 1993.  Now you can find it at Wal-Mart.

I now find that, given the choice between ginamus and fish heads, I'll take the fish heads.  Just looking at that ginamus.... shiny, slimy little dead minnows swimming in a mocha-brown watery mix, ladled out of a plastic bucket......... groan, gulp* --burp!

... in response to Don't forget the Garlic Rice..mega-sarap..., posted by Pete on Jun 9, 2001

you get my vote, Pete....*S*

Ever tried it with the sauce from the adobo?  Hey, just remembered.....the SINANGAG  (or what you call garlic fried rice)  have been partnered with the  "filipino style beef
stew"  and called  PARES  (which literally mean PAIR).

Another yummy food that shouldn't be missed.  *S*

I haven't had garlic rice with the adobo sauce on it but I've had regular rice with it. Yum! Here's a funny story for ya. One night I was out eating at a filipino restaurant with a few close filipino friends here in nyc. We were talking about my trip (the first time I visited my fiancee) and I was telling them How I liked "puso." My friend was like "What??!" Heh...she is originally from Manila...she thought I was talking about "heart," (tagalog) not the "hanging rice" delicacy (cebu)...heh! It took awhile for us to realize we were talking about 2 different things!
