According to the news, Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai met today with President George Bush.  There were no substantive agreements, but President Bush announced he would attend a Pacific Trade Conference in Vietnam next year.

I had a bowl of pho (noodle soup) at "Pho 2000" last month.  The restaurant is famous because President Bill Clinton ate a bowl of pho there when he visited Saigion 10 years ago.  It was quite funny looking at the pictures of Bill Clinton slurping down the pho.  Think what you will about his presidency, the guy had a world class appetite.

The Prime Minister also met with Bill Gates and Microsoft has agreed to provide training, software, etc. to 50,000 teachers in Vietnam.  I guess he is trying to prevent Apple from gaining any inroads among Vietnamese youth.  Smiley

IMHO, the meetings are good steps in improving the relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam.  Now, if they could just get that visa approval bureaucracy moving a little faster .... Smiley

Here in Washington the rumor is that George H.W. Bush, the former President, is pulling strings to help keep his son from having to go to VietNam.
