Hi Jon,

The Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ from the Philippines) has been discussed here on the forum before and is probably the “wacky religious group” you are thinking of. Yes, they are weird. You have probably seen their churches in the Phils or in Cebu City. They tower over just about everything in the city.

Even more weird is the PBMA (Philippine Benevolent Missionary Association), a kind of cult with a murderer for their “Devine Master”. Ruben Ecleo Jr. killed his wife and is up for trial in Cebu. When the government tried to arrest him, there was a big shootout near his “palace” and I think 26 people died. So far his followers have killed off most of his dead wife’s family and the prosecuting attorney in Cebu. His group has also been caught smuggling weapons into Cebu recently. Make sure you don’t get involved with this group!
