"ringgggggggg..."

"ringggg, ringgggg..."

"MMmmmmmm", Slowly consciousness begans to intrude upon the warm safe sanctuary that is sleep.

"ringggggg..."

"arrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh" I roll over thinking maybe it will go away.

"ringgggggggggggggg..."

"grrrrrrrrrr..."  Rubbing my eyes and look at the alarm.  "7am!?  Who the F... is calling me at 7am!!!?  Oh Sh..!"

I spring to my feet to find the phone. Groggy from a late might chat session with my fiancee, who has little regard for the differnce in time zones between us.

"rinnnnnnnggggggggg..."

GREAT!!!  A homing beacon!

Stub my toe.  "F...!"

Reeling from first thing in the morning toe pain, I wonder two things as I struggle for a coherent grasp on why I am out of bed already.  First, what day is it?--it's Tuesday, right?  Yeah, Tuesday. It IS Tuesday isn't it?--and second, where the HELL was the last place I used the cordless phone?!

"ringggggggg..."  The Desk!  "ringgggg..."  By the computer!

"Hello?"  Really more of a question than any kind of answer.  "Honey?"  The line is dead.

Wake up.  Focus!  011-63-920-***-****. Press the talk button.

"Hello."  Chirps my lovely and talented Asawa-In-Waiting. "Honey oiiiiii..."

"HONEY... it's 7am!"

"Oiiiiii Honeyyyyy... I have been trying since, 6:30(seeks-thur-Teeee)  What are you doing?"

"6:30?  Honey...  What do you think I was doing???"

"I got da visa(veeeee-Saaaahhhh)..."

"Yeah, I know honey.  They said it would be here by the end of the week."

"Dili, Honey oiiiiiiii...  Wake UP!  I GOT DA VEEEE-SAAAHHHH!!!"

"You got the visa?"  tears of joy welling in my blood shot eyes.

"Lagi honey oiiiiiiii...  I have Eeeeet in my handdddd!!!"  laughter spilling forth.

"That's great hon... how long until you're ready to come?"

"HONEYYYYYY... I have been waiting 18 MONTHS!!! I want to come dare NOWWWWWW!!!"

So that's how my day started Cheesy  How about the rest of you?  Tongue

Gerlie has VISA IN HAND!!!  YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW

The flight is booked for Sept 9th, yes Nox I WIN Tongue and we are both beside ourselves with relief!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhh... What a beautiful day!!!

Keep the Faith!

Howard

After 18 months in Purgatory it is time for you and Gerlie to have some fun. Congratulations on the great news for both of you  Both of you have been through the ringer on this one.  Kathryn also voiced her happiness for you when I told her the good news  as  she has also been  following your story with interest too.  Is Gerlie going to join the band as a backup singer?  I hope you have a great reunion on sept 9 th.  are you flying to meet her in the philippines  of is she going to wing it alone to america?

Stay in the loop buddy and Keeping the faith pays off.

Hi Bro,

That is FANTASTIC news!!! Congratulations to you and Gerlie!!!

My day started around 4:30AM with the faint crowing of roosters and the sounds of tricycles passing by. Not too bad since we put in the aircon units. I fell back to sleep and got out of bed around 6:30AM. I ate breakfast on the balcony overlooking the barangay...you guessed it, I'm in the Philippines. Been here a week and will be here a few more...depending on what Hurricane Frances does to my home in Florida. Shocked(

Big D

P.S. Ray, I bought a purple tabo! Shocked)))

Dave,
I hardly ever post but check in fairly often to see what is going on here.  Anyway, we were considering buying a small airconditioner for Melly's mother some time soon and weren't sure how much it might cost.  I am assuming you got a window unit, which is what we want?  What price can we expect vs cooling capacity?
Well, hopefully Florida will still be intact when you get back here!

... in response to AC Question, posted by SteveG on Sep 5, 2004

Hi Steve,

Looks like Ivan is on his way...

Right...small window or wall type aircon unit. LG brand costs about $200, we have a small Carrier (Artic Series & Ultima Global Series - latest) unit in each bedroom which were around $300 (P15,000) each. Not sure of the BTU's as they were installed in the walls (cement block) before we arrived and haven't looked for the paperwork. My brother-in-law says that they are 3/4 horsepower...? The temps on both units are set toward the warm side (just before midway) during the day. At night I have to turn the Ultima in our room to about 1/3 cool or this Michigan-born boy freezes his ass off in the middle of the night! =8oO My wife's cousin just put an aircon in their nipa hut...LOL They actually took wood and enclosed the bedroom with walls, a ceiling, and a door. It works very well.

Dave,
You've lived in Florida too long I guess if the aircon is freezing you in the Philippines!   LOL  I didn't know you were originally from Michigan though.   Sure wish I could learn to freeze some - I'm always hot it seems and looking at the thermostat or air filter wondering why the AC isn't cooling enough!
Thanks for the cost info.  That was what I was hoping would be the cost.  Not sure how to estimate the BTU's when given horsepower of the motor but I'm sure it is something that would be adequate for what Melly is wanting.  Well, it looks like ol' Ivan is wearing down at least a little but still going to be quite a storm!

"we put in the aircon units"

HI Dave!

What's this line above mean? Did you retire there and buy some property? You sly dog! Anyway, good to hear from you.

Take Care,
Jay

Glad to hear you are safe.  We were worried about you guys.  We have been in Florida for 5 weeks and this is our second hurricane threat.  Just last year in May, we were looking out the window in Springfield, Mo and watching pieces of tin and insulation fly overhead from a tornado.  Maybe bad weather is following us?  Sounds like you are having fun in PI.

Hi Steve and Juliet,

My boys are holding down the fort back in Florida. Looks like just a bunch of trees down and water near our house. Hope you all are safe!

Dave H.,

I miss sending email from some little internet cafe in the PH. Your post took me back. Thanks. Short but sweet. Is San Miguel still the best beer in the world? So, where in the PH are you? Hope the best for you and your true love.

Take care,

Hi Ken,

...unfortunately, I will be back in the states in a few weeks. Sure would love to do like Larry or Don...so little time and so much I want to do! We're in Butuan...I may get over to Surigao and take the ferry across to Leyte...wanted to go with Tito on the pump boat...but my wife doesn't want me to become shark bait. ;o))) To answer your most important question...IMHO...YES!!!  San Miguel is still the BEST beer in the world and dirt cheap!!! Kuya just got back from the store with a cold case of San Miguel...compliments of my wife.

Dave H.

P.S. My wife does let me drive the motorcycle and van like a madman around town...but I'm no match for the crazy Filipino drivers! ;o)))
