Well, groupies, today marks our one year anniversary, and quite a year it has been. In all the hundreds of my failed attempts here I never imagined I would ultimately wind up with a woman so fine. She is wonderful to the core.

There are many expats here in Dumaguete, both permanent and temporary, and most of their wives and fiances are at a loss as to why Rony would be with me. Usually one of the first things they ask is "When are you going to the USA?" When Rony tells them we have no intention of going to the USA, the usual response is that ever so slight pursing of the lips. Then, inevitably the subject comes out that we also have no money, that I have no pension, and no savings, and that we are indeed trying very hard to come up with enough pisos to open the biz every day. Most days we come up short. Now the eyebrows come into action, sometimes in total disbelief, other times you can see the wheels turning in their brains thinking, "Why on earth would she want to be with him?" I know the answer to that. BECAUSE SHE LOVES ME!

She doesn't love me because I am a rich foriegner, she doesn't love me because I can give her a better life, or a green card. She loves me for me. For who I am.

We seldom disagree about anything, but she is not the least bit shy about telling me her thoughts either. We can talk about ANYTHING, and usually come up with the solution that fits both our needs.

She is always laughing and smiling. She has a million dollar smile that covers her entire head.

She is very cute. She looks to be about 13-15. Whenever we go anywhere we get the looks from all the old ladies, who are thinking, "She's just a little girl". Actually though, she will be 26 in December, but they would never believe that. She has had some very rough times in her life, which has made her mature beyond her years, but they don't know that. Sometimes this does get a bit irritating, and at times I have retorted to them, "Your ignorance is showing". Of course, this coming from a baby raper means nothing to them.

So, for all those out there still looking for that special someone I will say, "Keep the faith". (Just as Howard would) The second thing I would say is don't get in a hurry. I made as many mistakes along the way as anyone I know, and it finally did happen to me when I least expected it to. Don't settle for anything less than the perfect woman for you, because chances are she IS out there. Weeding through them can be VERY frusterating, but the end results are well worth the effort.

Tomorrow it's off to Siquijor for a day of relaxation.

So once again, keep the faith! It can happen to you too!

Larry.

P.S. A special yeeeehaw to Howard!!

Congrats to you and Rony. I've really enjoyed reading your stories over the past few years. Glad to see things working out in Dumagete. Carmen and I spent a few days there 3 years ago on our initial get together. I have some great memories of the area. The best part was a day we spent in a deep valley at a waterfall somewhere outside of town.
It is also the city where the frames on my glasses simply fell apart. An optical shop there made me new glasses in about an hour by grinding down the old lens to fit in new frames. I purchased the most expensive frames..$20.00. I still wear them.

You were at Casaroro Falls. 200+ ft drop. Pristine area. There are thousands of very nice places to see around this area. We never get tired of just driving around the backroads.

...and hearing just about every story you can imagine.  Where we all were headed and where most of us ended up.  Simply amazing isn't it.  Most seem pretty happy even though they had to tread a road a little more step than the rest.  Seems to boil down to one common factor.  Being loved by some cute Filipina.
