Howdy. I am just wondering what y'all think about the article below. In 1999 I was writing to a Filipina lady and she told me that, when she was a little girl, her teacher beat her in class with a coat hanger until she started to bleed. She said that she was chewing gum in class and her teacher became angry with her.
I'll tell you what, in China, with the "little emperor syndrome", maybe some of those spoiled brats need this kind of treatment. (smiles)
I realise that this of course is beyond corporal punishment, but is physical contact and corporal punishment still used in the Philippines today?
Okay, just an article for thought. Have a good day y'all.

Parents mull case; teacher repentant
By Joey P. Nacalaban
PARENTS trooped to the Calaanan Elementary School Monday to confront a teacher who allegedly ordered her pupils to lick the toilet floors last Thursday while separate investigations are being initiated on the incident.
Ursula Janeth Abellanosa was unable to hold classes Monday when several irate parents came to talk to her in person about the Thursday incident.
Radio reports said Abellanosa hurried back to her house crying instead of facing the complainants.
The case arose from an incident Thursday when Abellanosa allegedly ordered some pupils to enter the toilet and lick its floor.
Prior to this, the victims said Abellanosa whom they said was furious at them for being unruly was scolding them.
The three pupils whose names were being withheld since they are minors were brought Monday to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) for questioning.
All of them confirmed that indeed they were ordered by Abellanosa to lick the toilet's floor and there were actually 20 of them who experienced the same humiliation.
The allegations were vehemently denied by Abellanosa who said the incident is now under investigation by her superiors at the Department of Education.
But in an interview with ABS-CBN Cagayan de Oro the teacher tearfully admitted that she got carried away. "Magso-sorry naman ako sa kanila (I would say sorry to them)," she said.
Parents of complainants have expressed their intention to file the case before the CHR and DepEd.
The city government is also bent on investigating the case with Acting Mayor Michelle Tagarda Spiers ordering an inquiry into the case.
During Monday afternoon's City Council session, opposition Councilor Zaldy Ocon recommended in his special report that the council invite City Schools Division Supt. Isabellita Borres and the parties involved for a hearing on the case.
The council committee on education had scheduled a hearing on the case this Thursday afternoon. Administrative charges are also reportedly filed against Abellanosa who had worked in the school for eight months.
Corporal punishment
Later in an interview Ocon said penalties should be meted on erring teachers to prevent them from abusing their authority.
"Even Dr. Borres told me that what Abellanosa did to the schoolchildren was beyond corporal punishment and this is even banned in schools today. This may not be an isolated case," he said.
For his part Councilor Jose Benjamin Benaldo said the incident is within the scope of authority of the city government.
He said the Local School Board (LSB) could decide to mete suspensions on the erring teachers and added the council should conduct its inquiry on the Calaanan school case.
"If found that there is really any truth to the charges, then we will recommend for her (Abellanosa) immediate suspension. This shouldn't be delayed even when there is a court case," Benaldo said.
The councilor who chairs the education committee said such acts are inhuman, barbaric and against all laws.
For his part CHR officer Vic Alerio said if the children are telling the truth then Abellanosa was violating the human rights of the complainants.
"But we will still investigate the matter, this would be a separate probe from them (DepEd)," Alerio said.
