Let's see, $260,000 / 300 = $867

Jailed women cited in pen-pal case

PITTSBURGH – Ten female inmates in Pennsylvania jails and prisons have been indicted on charges they bilked more than 300 pen-pals – mostly men – out of thousands of dollars by lying to them and promising long-term relationships.

According to the indictments, the women placed personal ads in tabloid magazines and on Web sites. When the men responded, the women often sent phony photos and told them they were to be released from prison soon, the indictments alleged.

Alleged victims, bilked out of nearly $260,000, were from around the nation. The women were charged with mail fraud or conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

Blatant violation of Dr. Laura's first rule in 10 Stupid Things men do to mess up their lives.
If you are only out $900 in such a scam, consider yourself lucky that your tuition in the school of hard knocks was so cheap.

There are scary people not in jail too.  Of course there's the  guy that was just let out after 22 years for a rape he did not commit.
