Hey Ray,

Sorry I haven't been to the Sagasi Bar yet, it's in the Gateway Hotel right? We might stay there a night before we head back to the states, I'll check it out then.

Got a questions.

we are looking at a lot to purchase for a future house. Of course it will be in Nancys name but what about her rights in own it if and when she becomes a U.S. citizen.

Take care old friend,
Surigao Ken

If Nancy becomes an American citizen then she is limited to ownership of not more than 3 hectacres in the country and something like 1/2 hectacre in a city.

(I interpret "city" to be somthing like Manila or Davao.  Not a town like Suragao City.)

Also, a hectacre is 10,000 sq. meters or 2.47 acres.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Stephen

PS.  Tell Nancy that Tess just got to Butuan City today.  The ladies should get in touch.  I know Tess would like to meet Nancy.

I'll bet that commute isn't nearly as fun without your sweetie. How long will she be there?

She is supposed to return on May 20.

That's a lot of fixing my own meals and cleaning my own mess up at the house.

Hmmmmmm.

Ken,

She could still own property as a former citizen, but the size of a lot would be limited. A residence would probably be no problem. Also, there is a new dual citizenship law in the Phils that would allow her to carry both passports if she wanted.

Why don't you spend an hour with a local attorney and get all the facts? Also, watch out for those new subdivisions in the flood plain near the river. I would look for a place that NEVER floods and has all utilities and sewers in.

Ray,
Thanks for the info. Now that you mention it the lot were looking at is reclaimed rice paddies . They filling it in with rock, gravel and dirt. There are already various houses going up in typical PH. lackadasical style. Interesting thing is that there are no water or sewage facilities yet, but you can see the pipes along the highway.
The barangay captain is a close fried of Nanacy's brother, and was offered a free lot that has not been filled in yet. What do you think Ray?

Reclaimed rice paddies? Is this out near the airport? I would build a nipa hut on pontoons. Anything else will probably sink into the mud.

No sewers? Where do think those neighbors will be throwing their terds at night? Over your fence of course.

Oh, the price of living in paradise... LOL

Sounds great Ken. Reserve a lot for me too.

Ray,
Acually its a development by Senator Barbers, (the local head honcho around here), the opposite direction from the airport. You should see his place. We drove by, it has 25 bedrooms. ( Places for all his girlfriends?)
Well, we will wait and see. Thanks for the advice. By the way, all water has been cut off the past two days. We are washing in bottled water, same as the French. ( If they wash at all.)

Take care,
Surigao Ken
