My fiance is convinced that unless we have photos of an engagement party to display she will not receive her fiance visa that we applied for in September.  She said that due the high rate of fiance visa fraud the US government looks for these pictures as proof of sincerety.

To me, this makes no sense.  Surely we could not have been expected to have an engagement party before I filed the application for the K1 visa.  And once the application is approved (probably in April or May of this year) and sent to the US embassy in Saigon, surely I am not expected to fly over and quickly hold an engagement party in order to give my fiance pictures of the event to take with her on her interview.

(By the way, with my K1 application I did submit pictures of me with my fiance and her family and with various of her relatives.)

Am I missing something?

It is not a hint.  Her mother's demand that we have a proper engagement party has already been relayed to me and I have acquiesed.  For practical reasons I just don't think we can do it BEFORE she gets the visa.

Poor girl is trapped between trying to please her mother and trying not to be too pushy with you (yet).  They may be worried that once she getsthe visa, you as The Man might arbitrarily decide to skip the party that they are hoping for.  So she comes up with this little white lie to nudge you in a desired direction.  What woman doesn't do this to some extent?  IMHO, expect more of the same in the future.  As long as she's not whiney and b!tchy about it, it's probably something you can live with.  As it's been said here before, they are still women, so of course they will be somewhat manipulative.  But being Asian women, their pressure methods will be far more gentle and pleasing than we typically expect in Western cultures.

Enjoy the party. (You know you're gonna have to do it.)

I agree Bob. Asian women in general still know how to get what they want by being feminine.

Western women used to be like that too before the feminist movement. Now they DEMAND what they want by trying to be masculine, but about all they are getting lately is a bunch of men telling them to F#$% off.

Who knows, at this rate Asian wives in America may someday outnumber Western wives. Good!
