Hey Hum, I wasn’t invited! But I thought that was real nice of George to agree to be your best man (ROFLMAOCUMLTNTPIMFP).

1. Get Married
2. Enjoy honeymoon
3. File for AOS, including EAD and Advanced Parole. Start by download forms I-485, I-765, I-131, U-812, I-864, G-325A and start reading the links below.
4. She will need a SSN. If she doesn’t have one yet, go to SSA office after she gets her EAD.

She can work as soon as she has the EAD and Social Security Card. Some local INS offices will give her an EAD the same day you apply for AOS (on a walk-in basis) and some will take up to 3 months (?)

Hi Dave,

Thats right.Look's like we will be heading to Miami again next week.We got Joy's card finally and it has the wrong dates on it.Aaahhhhhhh!I told Joy I will stand on line with her but she goes in alone.At this point I might get arrested
cause I have had it with those people.I thought we were done with them  for a year and a half but noooooooooo.We will be headed to Miami about 3AM.Maybe I can make a few bucks holding a place in line for some people:)

Hey Matt,

Sorry to hear that!!! We haven't received my wife's card yet. When did your wife get hers? If we ever get the card (lots of immigration and SS cards stolen in mail here and sold to illegals), I kind of expect a name or date problem. "Mi no espeaky Ingles!" I'm sure you can relate! People haven't lived until they've been through Miami INS! Good Luck!

On our first visit (4:00AM until 5:30PM) the cashier said that the receipts for Advanced Parole, AOS, and EAD would be mailed to us, "New procedure." The clerk who processed our paperwork verified. We both asked twice, same answer. Turns out, they were still supposed to give us the appointment receipt for Advanced Parole...they forgot. I got a call the next day from the clerk and tried hard to understand her. Something about us forgetting to pick up our receipts and had to come down and get them the following Monday, since her EAD interview was on Tuesday.  I tried to be polite, knowing that I didn't want to get on their "She...it List." When I asked if we had to stand in line for hours again, the clerk said that she had no control over that. She added "Come bery early!" and hung up.  Needless to say, the thought of standing in line again outside for 4-5 hours and another 8 inside didn't make my day...or weekend. We paid $10 to park and got in line at 4:00AM...again. I was doing pretty good at keeping myself calm, in spite of the situation and hearing the security guards yelling at people in their broken English to get in line up against the building or they would "Trow dem out!" Hmmm...just like third world Latin America I thought. The line was half way around the block. At 7:00AM, I told a guard what had happened and he told us that we were in the wrong line. We were supposed to be in the other line, around the other side of the building. It had just been reopened that day, after having been eliminated the week before. The line went 3/4 around the block. When we got to the end I lost it! After getting on two security guards butts to get me an INS employee (they are only used to dishing it out...not taking it) one went and got an INS employee. Fortunately my had wife remembered the name of the INS clerk who screwed up...(I couldn't understand her English on the phone and had forgotten her name). The INS employee who came out happened to be very nice. I was amazed! I name dropped and told the INS employee that the clerk told us to bypass the line and come directly to her desk to get the receipts. He asked me twice if I was sure and then told us to go inside the garage and stand by the entrance door. I told him I would be right back and ran to retrieve my wife near the end of the line on the other side of the building. I ran the opposite direction of the line, since it was shorter. We got inside fast and my wife went directly to the clerks counter, while I stood in the line we were told to go for a number. The clerk was surprised to see my wife standing in front of her, because she hadn't called any numbers yet. My wife explained that she needed to pick up her receipts. The clerk told her that she forgot to pick them up and would have to wait until her number was called..."a few hours." To which my wife told her, "No! We asked you and you told us they would be mailed to us! It was your mistake!" Suddenly, the clerk became very friendly and told my wife that she was very sorry, giving her the paperwork. My wife came to me, still standing in line, with a big smile and we left. In all, we were there about 4 hours. I was thrilled to be out of there, and especially happy with my wife's determination and guts.

Three cheers for Marife.Thats the way to handle things.
We had the interview Sept 15th and got the card Jan 6th.My heart sank when we read the dates.Valid:09/15/01 Expires:09/15/03.We went to Davie Service Center with our I-90 (for replacement of lost,stolen or expiring cards.Or cards with administrative errors)and were told,sorry,"jew must go to Miiami".The sign on the window said this is the place for I-90's.Oy ve.Since my heart attack I try not to sweat the small stuff so I am going to Miami with grim determination and calm  nerves.What's ten more hours in the process? I can't fight city hall!These are the times,though, I wish I was still a drinker.I'd fill a twenty ounce bottle with rum and a splash of coke and stand there all day.Make a party of it.Talk to my neighbors in line..."Me llamo Mateo...Hola..Que pasa!"

That really sucks!!! I'm not sure what they do at Davie INS, other than finger printing and sitting around talking all day. Even their rack of INS forms are old and most of them are no longer usable according to the INS website. The "neighbors" (mostly Colombian) in line at Miami INS were the best thing about the whole experience for us. They protected us with their umbrellas when it rained and gave us food and cafe Cubano. Somewhat fluent in Spanish, I told them about the Philippines being controlled by Spain for over 300 years and they were thrilled. My wife was able to understand a few words of Spanish, so they compared Bisaya and Tagalog words with Spanish. It made the wait more pleasant. I felt ashamed about the conditions at Miami INS and for the rude treatment of the legal immigrants by security and INS employees.

Dave,,,so I guess you don't want to hear about our Kansas City AOS experience???LOL...We got there at 8:00AM, our appointment was at 8:30AM,, In the INS agents office by 9, she was upper 30's American, She asked if we had this, this this and this,,,,We were out in 30 minutes,,see you in 2 years.  She got her 2 year green card 3 months later...I was about the only American citzen there,,I think she was relieved....

That's great! When we went for the Advanced Parole interview, (rescheduled to Thursday)security would only let the immigrant inside, no "translators." I was a little worried, because anything and everything does go wrong at Miami INS. There was another American standing outside who was really pissed and wanted to talk to an INS officer "NOW!!!" Security didn't know what to do and looked nervous like they were about to pounce on him. More security and a supervisor came. I felt the tension! His wife and I tried to calm him and the security. He wanted to know "who the F" I was and said he would only talk to a lawyer. Finally, he realized that I was on his side. Once security got their feathers unruffled, they brought out an INS employee. I found out that it was his second trip there (3 hour drive) that week. He was told by the INS clerk when they filed for AOS and Advanced Parole that his immigrant wife's 2 children didn't need to be there for the Advanced Parole interview (really just to pick up papers, no interview) because they were minors and their photos were turned in with the paperwork. Different story when they arrived on Tuesday. He was told by security that he had to wait outside, even though his wife spoke little English and they had no Russian translators available. He went to go put more money in the parking meter and when he returned he found his wife sitting on the curb crying. INS refused to give her the Advanced Parole documents for the children because they were not present. Confused and not sure what to do, she began to cry. With little knowledge of English, she couldn't get her point across to the non-native "English speaking" INS employee. She was told to return with the children on Thursday. Security was called and she was "escorted" out of the building. The husband was upset and asked to speak to an INS employee. Security refused and told him to leave or they would have him arrested. They left and returned on Thursday with the kids as she had been told. On Thursday security wouldn't let his wife and children inside the building because their appointment letters said "Tuesday." He threatened to sue and demanded to talk to an INS employee. Where I came in. Finally one came out and talked with him. Then the INS employee escorted the wife and children inside and they returned a short time later with the documents.

...and there won't be any more INS.

HOWEVER, the same bozos will still be working there, at least in the short term. I think the Homeland Security Dept got off to a good start though by slashing all the INS fees. We'll see...
