US airman deserts to join Philippines girlfriend, is arrested

A lovesick US airman who deserted his post in South Korea to join his girlfriend in the Philippines has been arrested, the immigration bureau said Friday.

Russell Andrew Mink, 22, from Knoxville, Tennessee, is to be deported to the United States to face a court martial for desertion, immigration chief Andrea Domingo said in a statement.

Mink, a weapons load crew member at a US Air Force base in Kunsan, left the facility in September to visit his Filipina girlfriend and failed to report back to duty, Domingo said.

He was arrested Thursday in Bacoor town near Manila, where he has been living with his girlfriend and their son, Domingo said.

So was he thinking with his big head or his little head?
But now he must me in deep doo doo.  I was stationed in Misawa Japan working in the cold on those planes.   It would be tempting to go to a nice warm place and a gf with
a son?  Owch  Oh well!   Thanks for the news
