A little background first. I'm a teacher with the usual debts and expenses. Era is H/S educated with only a mother and brother, all work, but with minimal paying jobs. Of course she has thousands of cousins, aunts and uncles. One aunt, 30 is married to an American. Now to the questions.
1. She has stated that she would like to quit her job, but asks me and I tell her to wait until her papers are approved. I'm afraid that she will lose her job anyway when she has to go to Manila for her physical, but jobs are hard to find. What would seem fair to you guys?
2. She has never had the chance to go to college or even dream of it. What has been your experience about Filipinas and American schools after they arrive?
3. Lastly, for now. What, if anything, should I give her mother? I realize that I/we will be responsible to send her money. Should I give her a gift and what?
Thanks for your advice and God bless. capt david

First, I agree that she should not quit her job until she gets her papers.  Tess worked until the day before she left for the USA.  She took no leave at all.

Second, I have no knowledge as to going to college.

Third, I did not give any gift to Tess' parents.  We do send them $60 per month to help them.  But I wouldn't sent over $100 per month.  (I'm not being cheap....but before I came along they survived.  They still will.  Furthermore, they've never asked for anything.  Tess' family is really quite nice.  I like them a lot.)
