Dean and I decided to be a little less ambitious the next day.  There is a penpal of Deans that lives in Lapu-lapu that we decide to go meet.  The girl sent me a text detailing how to find her apartment, and off we go.  When we arrive, the penpal of Dean has 3 sisters to introduce to me, and they are all available.  Dean's penpal is a real cutie, and they are getting along great.  I stay busy talking to the 3 sisters, and it eventually comes out that all three are single moms, and that none of them work.  This is surprising to me because their apartment is the nicest one that I have ever seen in Cebu, and it is full of very expensive electronics.  I find out later that they have an aunt that is sending them money.  But it is still odd that the four of them live so well in Cebu while their family and children are all living in Mindinao.  Yep, expensive apartment, the best cell phones, tattoos, expensive clothes......never did figure out what they did for a living ....
I spent the rest of that week swimming and reading.
I read 3 novels that week, and that is one of the things that I enjoy most on vacation, getting caught up on my reading.
After a week in the Philippines I needed to get some laundry done, and I refuse to pay the crazy prices at the hotels, so I went to the laundry that Vilma and I had always used. Oh my, one of the employees is very excited to see me.  I explain to her that Vilma and I are divorced, and she is almost begging me to take her out.  We meet after her work for coffee, and I am pleasantly surprised at how good her English is, and how intelligient she is.  We have a great conversation. Then she drops the bomb.  Since I had last seen her she had gotten pregnant by her Filipino ex-boyfriend and has had a baby boy.
Of course, it was her first and only time that she had ever had sex.....
I continued to keep in touch with her, but I could never have a relationship with a single mom, and I was honest with her about that.
I also continued to spend some time with penpal #4, (the intelligient reader)  she was working crazy hours, but we would meet for lunch or dinner every day or two.  I told her everything about my marriage and divorce.  It was really nice getting a Filipinas viewpoint on the problems that Vilma and I had, and she really helped me to understand Vilma more. This one I could see being really good friends with.  But that would be it, just friends.
Also, while in Cebu I learned that the Laguardia Hotel has been torn down to build a new hotel.  The two hotels that I stayed at were the Castle Peak, and the Golden Peak.  Both very nice hotels for about $20 a night, and I would recommend both of them.  The Golden Peak restaurant has better food, and is only a 4 peso Jeepney ride to Ayala Mall.
I did spend one night at the West Gorordo Hotel, but it was way too noisy for me to sleep, and the shrew at the front desk kept warning me not to bring in any girls, not that I even tried.

This is valuable information for anyone who hasn't made the trip to the Philippines yet. I think what you experienced is very representative of what anyone might find on a trip like yours. Can't wait report 4! BTW RGG is a old poster here who lives in Davao he gave Sallie and I the grand tour of Davao and Gen San when I was there last winter. Reading your report makes me feel very lucky I met Sallie.

... in response to Great report Don!, posted by Humabdos on Nov 6, 2002

but remember that Sallie is an older woman.  (At least I think you said she was about age 35.)  There's a lot of difference between a 20 year old and a 35 year old woman.

Tess is now age 39.  I'm thankful that I married a more mature lady.

Yes, Sallie is 34. She is a responsible mature lady. Just what it will take to clean my act up lol. It's much more wise to leave the 20 year olds to Nate to deal with! I learned my lesson the hard way as have many others
(not that it can't work) I do know a fair amount of 45 year olds married to 25 year olds who seem to be doing very well so far.

Regards to Tess, Hum
