A bomb exploded in a Monumento-bound bus near Muņoz Market along EDSA in Quezon City around 10 p.m. Friday, killing three people instantly. Police said they feared there were "many casualties."
"The bus was severely damaged and we fear there are many casualties," a police spokesman said.
Police said the blast completely burned down the Golden Hi-way Transit bus bearing plate number PXB 989. More than 20 injured passengers were taken to the nearby MCU hospital, police said.
The explosion occurred a day after seven people were killed and more than 100 injured in two bomb explosions in the main shopping center of the mostly Christian city of Zamboanga in the country's south. Police believed those bombings were carried out by Islamic radicals.
