There may be a few foreign women- Filipinas or others watching this board to get a feel for something about "foreign men".
We would be hard pressed to give you much good advice about what to look for, but avoiding men who like to engage in long tedious arguments would be a good start. Can you imagine what a drag it would be for any decent woman to be married to such cads?
When I was living in the Philippines there were a few American men I met there that some very lucky local girl might end up married to.
Unfortunately, there were even more that seemed like poster boys for
feminist rants about American men looking for mail order brides.
I personally know several very good young attractive Filipina women that are single and looking. I do not personally know American men here that I would advise them to meet, and watching this board would not give them much encouragement.

On the other hand, I think if I was a new guy looking at this board, I would get scared off. There's been too many unsucsessful stories.

I think some guys totally buy into some of the agency hype and it's sobering for them to see some stories of failure.  You're right though, some who are initially skeptical might read this forum and decide it's not for them, perhaps making a bad decision.  Think of it as a good thing.  It might reduce the business to some agencies a little bit, but it can also reduce the competition for the men who decide to go forward with this.

Yes, that cuts both ways...a lot of conflict here sometimes.
I bet you have lived on the edge enough to know that if you are just playing the odds, you might very well wipe out.
I want to find ways to stack the deck in my favor and live life not captive to fear. If you figure the odds for yourself, I bet you are glad you can beat the odds. For myself, odds are that I am DEAD several times over in several countries. I am very much alive and have a great wife and little girl to show it, and believe me, that is very much against the odds for me, I attribute skill, luck and Gods care for that. A few minutes or hours in some horrible third world situation thinking that you will absolutely be dead very shortly can really clear the head.

you just seconded my earlier observation that a relatively high percentage of american men living in the PI and those seeking the MOB route are america's rejects and misfits.

You did say it in a much less blunt way than I did, but it translates the same either way. It was this exact statement from me that lead to this recent thread. I guess I proved my point, or rather, maybe Ray proved it for me.

I rest my case.

I don't know if I would say that many of the American men I saw in the Philippines are "america's rejects and misfits." Many men living in the USA that are very mainstream and successful in the USA would have given me the same impression. Rejects or misfits might fit for some of them, but I don't know if I can generalize and really don't want to. If I were to say, some of the first words that would come to my mind would be sleazy, arrogant, or crude. That would also fit large parts of popular American culture too. I also met some very good guys there that were well educated, high income, and probably considered handsome guys at home in the USA, who were clearly
good men who were looking for an alternative to what they found in the "dating world" in the USA.  I guess I don't want to bother making such a call as to the details...I find too many other great things to enjoy in the Philippines or anywhere for that matter. A lot of this is just my own impressions...I invite anyone else to collect their own.
I have also lived in Thailand where my brother still
lives and the Yanks and Europeans I met there seemed to take the cake as far as making a bad impression.
I lived in Malaysia too- most yanks I met there were walking the straight and narrow. A screw up there can get you caned or worse yet, hanged.
I can give much stronger opinions on:

    Finding good quality mangoes
    Finding a good ya-ya
    Getting along with Filipino inlaws
    Reading between the lines
Greating great service at the Dunkin Donuts in
       CDO divisoria
Finding polite ways to avoid eating lechon
    Dealing with VAST family reunions
and other stuff that takes slow tropical afternoons
       to figure out.

As I recall the service wasn't too bad at the dunkin donuts divisoria, however at the shakey's pizza in the mall it remember it sucked bad!

I was at a couple of meetings of 'Kanos' in CDO a year and a half ago. Forget the name of the place but is in a small restaurant down next to the river near the parkview hotel. Was a wild bunch, enjoyed myself immensely. You weren't one of the other patrons, were you?

Do you know the name of the place?

It was a small cafe around the corner from Parkveiw, on the street that runs parallel to and next to the river. Seems as though it had a lady's name.

I don't recal the name of the restaurant...I was not likely to have been there. There is a group of expats getting together usually on Saturday morning at the Blueberry cafe there, but I really did not participate much- I have mostly filipino friends there and a few long time expats with whom we sometimes enjoyed a night out. I did go other times to the Blueberry cafe. I found the Best mango shakes at
Izy Cafe in Gaisano mall.

Is probably the same group, although I don't think the name of the cafe was Blueberry. They may have changed days and locals, or it may have changed names. They used to get together on wednesday mornings.

All for now.
