Passport Question.

I'm planning my trip to the Phillipines, but I haven't purchased
the airfare yet. When applying for a passport, do you need to
provide a copy of the air tickets, or can you just provide them
with a basic idea of when your planning to take the trip? I haven't
figured out the exact days yet, but I want to make sure that I have
the passport in hand, sometime before the day of the actual trip.

I'm very new to this.. this will be my first time outside of the US.

Hi,
This is how I've obtained my passport several months ago.
First,  I went to Sears and got my passport photo. It costs $14.99. You need a copy of your birth certificate from your health department. Then fill out a passport application form which you might be able to get it at the courthouse over at the clerk of courts dept. Make sure you know your parent's birthdates before you go there to speed up the process in filling out the application form. The passport application itself costs $45.00 for adults and $25.00 for children. Write a check payable to U.S. Dept. of State. Also need to write a separate check payable to your Clerk of Court for $15.00 as processing fee. They will send it out for you and you should recieved your passport within 45 days. Goodluck to you!

Yes Ray,
  And there's three of us, so it costs quite a bit for a simple instamatic snapshots, plust tax. Oh well, it was worth it having a passport handy. You really never know when you might need them...

In the case that you need a passport right away and can't wait 6-8 weeks for the normal processing, you will need to submit copies of plane tickets or your itinerary from a travel agent in order to get special processing. Otherwise, you won't need tickets.

It's best to apply well in advance before you even start planning a trip. I think every adult citizen should have a passport because you never know when you'll need it. If you don't have an expired passport, then you'll need to order certified copies of your birth certificate, which could take several weeks or longer. Go to your local post office for a passport application and list of places where you can apply.

No. You don't need to supply any information about where you plan to go or what you plan to do to get a passport. Passport is good for 10 years. Few questions asked other than identity questions.
