Hi Bryan,
I'm happy to read your post about your plan to visit philippines. It reminds me about hubby first visit in Philippines.I never did remember that I post here about how he captured my heart on his first visit.
We start corresponding via e-mail and letter from november 2000 and he decided to meet me in person by february 2001.Originally I wrote him letter october and received his reply november.I  was all excited to meet him in mactan cebu airport with my Mom and my cousin. His flight in cebu was delayed so he catch up the next flight.I'm already very nervous and anxiuos to meet him. Finally the plane he tell me he be on board already there but he never show up.I start crying and went to domestic wing to look for him.I'm very much worried.I go back to international wing and check again but nobody there.Could you immagine he is the last  person who came out in the plane made me all nervous. My cousin  tell me he saw my hubby inside but still I'm not convince. So I head back again to domestic  wing when my cousin approach the guy saying  "are you Greg".When I look back there he is.I feel shy when he give me a big Hug.I call my mom and introduce to him and introduce my cousin too.I'm on cloud 9 by that time.I have no idea what hotel he want to stay.I did remember he tell me Shangrila(sorry I have no idea how expensive this hotel was)So we call the taxi and tell the driver take us to shangrila hotel.Hubby trying to tell us something but we never did get what is it.When were already there I was all shock when we saw the tariff.Whooooooo too high.We ride on taxi again and look for hotel and we ended up in Park Place hotel.
The first things I observe in him that turn me on while on taxi is his dirty fingernails.Mom observe it too and make her feel like this guys level with us (at least his not rich looking guy)  make us more comfortable. He is really a farmer.Him and me stay in Hotel for three days because Mom and my cousin head back home in Bohol after  they take us to the hotel. It happen that when he arrived in cebu they have big business convention there so hotel room all occupied except for the suite room.I know his all tired so I let him take some rest.He sleep in the bedroom while I watch t.v on the couch. When he wake up we talk and getting to know each other.Oh his so gwapo.Time to go to bed.I tell him I will sleep in the couch and him in the bed but he say he will sleep in the couch. He is gentleman. He sleep in the couch for three nights.he spend the rest of his vacation in bohol with us.He never complain even once.He only bring 2 blue jeans and 2 white and  gray shirt. My folks in bohol keep telling him that he look like 24 years old but his 39 when he visit me.Girls always shout OH Gwapo. My greatest gift on my birthday is Him.He want to throw a party for me but I tell him better not.I have no cakes ,no food on my birthday but what important is that he make that special trip for my birthday. His the best birthday present I have in my whole life.People in my town really like him because his really humble and helpful. He like the attention he gets from people in my town. The attention he  never get here.he appreciate how close we are in philippines that make him sad to take me away from them.He keep telling me that everything there so beautiful.he say things  beautiful in philippines which I never see.The best things he like more there is that children gather around him keep telling Greg Gwapo.
One night I talk to my hubby and ask Him if I show any red flags when he first visit me.And he answer that the only red flag is that when I take him In Shangrila hotel he thought I am a golddigger but when I was all shock about how expensive shangrila and take him instead in affordable hotel he feel he was wrong about thingking that I am golddiger.I tell him that I have no idea about hotel because I never been in hotel in my whole life till he arrived.I have no idea too because that the very first time I visit cebu.I live 6 years in davao city but have no idea about cebu. You know what his trying to tell us in the taxi. His trying to tell us that he want to stay in Villa Bista Hotel but we have no idea that theres Villa Bista in Cebu were all stangers in cebu.

I think its nice that your family was close at hand while you were first meeting hubby. Your story at the airport is familiar because my girl and I went through a big mix up at the international airport in Manila. They forgot my bags on the first flight out of san fransisco and put them on the next flight about a half hour later so I had to stay in the terminal and wait for them. Meanwhile my pinay is outside worrying because they wouldnt let anyone into the terminal. So she went back and forth between the the domestic and international termial until she firgured out that I was at the PAL terminal. Then she started paging me but I couldnt leave because I had to get my bags. Eventually i got an airport attendant to call back on the page and tell her i was there and waiting for my late bags.  Im happy for you and hubby sounds like you two were meant to be .Ive been reading on this board for years and find you prespective entertaing informative and funny. Especially the list you just made concerning the differences between here and the PI. My Filipina has me wearing flip flops (slippers) all the time now : )
