Yesterday Honey and I attended another Fil-Am function, a combination christening, birthday, new citizen celebration party for several of the Filipinas in our new sphere of activity and associations. One lady was so proud that she had just become a citizen and another husband taslked about his hatred for the INS and how he just got a job with them (talk about strange). Another showed off her son who had been christen that morning. Brant, married in Hong Kong late last year, learned some bad news from me about how much longer he had to wait on his wife - he was clearly depressed but we all encouraged him to hang in there - he had no idea that K-3's were now taking about 8 months now. I was somewhat sadden to see that out of the 30 or so Filipinas that showed up only 8 men came, 2 were Filipino Nationals. The lades all "yakked" (which they translate to mean "chat") and were just as happy as you could ever see anyone be. They brought food enough to feed everyone that showed up for a week, but most only stayed 2-3 hours. Several plan to bowl with Honey and I when the new bowling season starts Thursday after next and we have all planned a combination campout, tubing on the Guadalupe River, dinner on the Riverwalk at the Rio Casa resturant later this month. I was unaware but there were 3 Filipino movie stars in Houston this weekend and an organization of Filipinos here (paid memebership) sponsored them. I really would have liked to go but the wifey didn't inform me?! We have been invited for dinner soon to Josie and Art's house (the ones we met first) and informed of another birthday party next weekend. Too bad because we are going to Alabama to meet with some Mag-Anakers Honey knew in Davao (part of the Helen saga).
In all my 48 years of life this is what I though weekends were supposed to be like. Its really sad that most of the men do not attend - I hope if these things are happening in your area that you guys take an open stance to and participate in them.
I wonder why I worried when I was bringing Honey here that she would be lonely and not have any friends or associations with her countrymen?
Another trip to the doctor for Honey Tuesday, the first sonagram I think. More standing in line at the SS office earlier that day. I sure hope I can get her driving soon but she doesn't seem to be to motivated for it.
